He was born at the Rocca, either on my way or on the return I see him. He stands so very tall looking over the lake. He sees over the wonderful church on his left and the school on his right.

We have climbed the statue all the way up to his head along a ladder. Fairly narrow and for some people it might be better to not go this last mile and rather buy entry ticket up to the terrace, where the view on the lake is gorgeous.

Well worth the walk up here although at some points I did wonder "how much further?!" But once up to the top the statue is so much larger than I expected. I had seen it from the lake and knew it would be impressive but it was so much awesome than I had pictured in my mind. The views from... More

Unfortunatly the gates were closed when we arrived saturday at 17:30 so check opening hours. But we could still admire it, and take photos from the closed gates, along with all the other late tourists. There is also an entrance fee, and ample parking.

On the top of San Carlo hill, near Arona, you can see one of the best statue in the world. The project on which it was designed was the basic for the Liberty statue now in New York

Definitely worth the effort to climb up. Mind you, if you're a very tall person, it's going to be a bit tricky. I have broad shoulders which kept hitting on the guard rail and knees which kept bumping into the steps of the ladder. I literally had to wiggle up, but it's very much worth it.

It's one of the tallest statue in the world and it worths a visit. You can climb inside and enjoy a nice view of the lake. It's also interesting to know the story about it. Kids and adults would love it!
