This tiny church has survived earthquakes and floods with its stunning wall paintings intact. Very close to the cathedral of Modica Bassa, it is worth the short detour.

A tiny chapel that you could easy miss, but it is well worth searching it out, and having a look at. Recommend.

This is a subterranean chapel, from I think the 12th century. It isn't open the whole time, but do make a point of going to it. The reason to do so is that it still has its C12 frescoes, some of them in really good...More

Well preserved Byzantine art. Worth the small admission fee. Well interpreted, peaceful, cool and calm.

This tiny ancient church is so worth a visit. Set in a cave, with Byzantine paintings it is incredible to behold. It's perfectly cool and gorgeously ancient and surprisingly well preserved. A must-see in Modica!

What an extraordinary find for us. A find that is made all the more amazing amongst all the grander Baroque churches. It seems so honest, there's very little theatre, that the emotions really become felt by all who visit. The man who let us in...More

We would not have found this historic site if not for the person at the visitor's center. It is an amazing example of the preservation that goes on in Sicily. The picture identifying the site is not accurate.
