Funny tree in the old town of Massa Marittima. Also the description sign is funny because they do not use the word ’penis’

OK - this one is a bit odd, especially as a decoration on an old civic building in a Medieval Italian hill town. Clearly about 'fertility' at some level. A good photo to pass onto (adult) friends....

Having a walk across Massa Marittima you may find some strange souvenirs and cards with the tree, on which penises grow. The original fresca with this tree was discovered in the year 2000 during the restauration the old fountain, known as "Fonte nuovo" since 1265....More

This is a really unique fresco. You don't see anything special at first but if you take a closer look at the "fruits" and find out what it is about it will definitely put a smile on your face :)

When you first look at this medieval fresco, it looks very quaint, but then looking at it closer, you can see what was on their mind. Fertility. Worth a look

The above age-old question is amusingly placed in a medieval context by the wonderful fresco of the Fountain of Abundance, which features a Tree of Fertility whose fruit consists of many pendulous penises and scrotums. Apparently this marvel of medieval artistic licence was hidden for...More
