This place was highly recommended by one friend from the expat/diplomat community in Lisbon. The place is nice and we took the tour with the wine tasting (picnic) included and also we opted to celebrate the bday of my daughter due to friends reunion (people coming from many countries around the world).
Our group of 10 people were very disappointed about the attitude of the staff. We had an accident with a bottle of wine that spilled in one of the tables and the reaction of the staff was very rude. Since then, the staff behavior changed and, at the time, we wanted to ask about the situation, they started to complain about our group. We were very unhappy about their reaction. Definitely not coming again and also we told people this place is not recommended at all.

Great tour and tasting. The staff were very knowledgeable, personable and kind. Highly recommend for those interested in what a modern vineyard can look like while staying true to the principle of sustainability and the idea that less is more. And some great wines!

Mariana guided us through the wine tour. She was brilliant - spoke perfect English. The information she gave was very interesting and detailed. We felt that she likes her job and does it with passion. Ana Rita also accompanied us on the tour. She was also extremely courteous and friendly. we would recommend the tour at any time. We thank you for this great experience🧡

Incredible winery, amazing architecture - a hidden gem in this beautiful Alentejo.
Joana was great during all the trip, explaining everything clearly and giving us great tips from the region (including a great lunch tip in Casa do Povo do Freixo, near the winery - food was amazing and great price!).
The wine...well, we could be there all day tasting it.

This is a really a must see if you are in the area. Driving past the expansive vineyard as you make your way to the reception is really serene. And when you reach the facility? The architecture of the building alone is worth the visit. Truly beautiful.
Our guide, Joana, really enhanced the experience for us. She was very knowledgeable about the wines and the winery. We had genuinely nice, friendly conversations with her. She graciously took the time to prepare some local bread and cheese for us for our tasting.
About that tasting? The three wines we tried - 2 whites, 1 red - were quite good. Well balanced and fairly priced for the quality. I type this review back at home as I enjoy one of my purchases :)

We had tried quite a few of the Freixo wines before and decided to drive up from Tavira to visit. Absolutely astonishing architecture and a great tour into the winemaking process with a lovely tasting at the end. Would give 6/5 if possible

Firstly, always make an appointment! It ensures other tours are not disturbed. We didn’t make an appointment and were kindly welcomed in a tour which was already ongoing however I could see how this disturbed the previous group and made things a bit more difficult for the guide.
I’ll make this review based on how it fulfilled my own expectations. And as my expectations were related to getting introduced to the Freixo wine, tasting their options and selecting a few for purchase. Unfortunately, I found it quite disappointing and expensive and for above purpose, I’d advise not to do it. Having said that, if wine tasting is not your main objective and are interested in the production process and the architectural part of the amazing building, then be sure not to miss this visit and it’s amazing.
With all visits is offered a glass of white wine. The cheapest option is 6/7 € and includes visiting the building and the tasting. Only one wine tasting. However, as we wanted to taste more than one wine and actually get to know the Freixo wines, another option was presented +/- 15€, would give the option of tasting another red wine. At the end of the visit, we are presented with all the wines that are produced, unfortunately is not possible to taste most of them (only 2 as we paid for the red wine tasting). It’s a bit strange being in the winery of a wine producer and not being able to taste at least the low / medium range wines… Have to mention, it was very different from other wineries we visited, where we were able to actually do the tasting and get to know the winery options in several ranges.
I left with the impression wine tasting is not really what they are presenting and not really interested in introducing their wine to regular customers.

The immensity of this huge and well treated estate is the first pleasant impression one can get when driving throughout it. If it wasn't for the signs you hardly can't find the winery, the heart and soul of the "Herdade" and a true treasure. Completely built underground, the feeling that you're entering The Guggenheim of the wine is inevitable. It's pure art what they have in there, from the amazing building to the production methods, from one of the most beautiful barrels room we ever saw to the wines itself that blend some typical Alentejo varieties with a few well adapted international ones.
Wrap it all on a very nice and professional tour guide that gives you all the time and information required to fully profit the tour, an enjoyable tasting that covered almost all the wines that are on sale at honest prices and you get an unforgetable experience.
