This beach between two monumental cliffs, with 2 km in lenght is breathtaki g. We visited jt just for a short time, but had a chance to enjoy ongoing surt challenges and get wet in the wild waves of the bay.

Great beach spot with bar, small restaurant, bathrooms, showers, free parking, lifeguards, and Surfing lessons.
Waves are very strong and lifeguards are cautious and make you move to safer spots when they see fit.
Pretty cliffs to the far side.
We visited the beach on two days and it was a treat to all of us. It has dark volcanic sand that sparkles as you walk through it. Clearly, it is a local favorite is it had a good crowd both days. My son loved...More
Beautiful surfing beach with large free car park, toilets, changing rooms and lifeguards. There is a nice snack bar / restaurant at the car park end with very reasonable prices and lovely views. I would suggest more a beach for sunbathing and running in and...More
Nice relaxed beach. Large car park but never too busy.
Lifeguards, so a good safe place for the family, whether sun bathing or getting in for a swim.
A surfing beach, so big waves are obviously a possibility, and on our second visit the beach...More

Hi, Its a very remote small island. Yes, there are beaches all over the coast and driving across one side to the other doesn't take long, but a lot of the beaches are not really set up for tourists.(there are restrooms but not chair rentals and things like that). SM is not a beach destination as this island is know for the gorgeous nature (volcanos, parks, mountains, scenery) so its not quite like a regular beach resort town. It looks more like Ireland/Hawaii cross. There are things to do but shopping/beach/dining is not what comes to mind. There is a good Mall in Ponta Delgada. Food is ok. With some preplanning you can get ok/decent food. It is fresh but very basic. Even grocery stores have items just not the selection I usually see when traveling to Europe. Just as long as you are not a foodie or expecting fantastic dining experiences you will do ok. Do a bit of research to make sure this is the vacation you want. While I thought it was a great place to visit because it is so remote and has such amazing nature it is very different from busy resort type touristy places.
