This is a tiny gem of a museum that covers the history of the Jews of Belmonte. There are some interactive opportunities within the museum. One can probably do the whole museum in an hour or less. It is a small slice of Judaic history,...More

This small museum tells a wonderful story about a very special Jewish community. I found it to be quite overwhelming. Yes, it is a modest museum and a relatively short visit, but the story is a truly great one. Belmonte is also a beautiful village...More

The museum tells an incredible story about a collection of local families that kept Jewish traditions, such as lighting candles for the Sabbath, in secrecy, for hundreds of years. Very impressive display. A rather small museum, suitable for adults and children.

The Jewish Museum in Belmonte recounts the story of the Jews in Portugal but its strongest feature is a video of interviews with members of the community. They describe what the community was and is, and speak about its uncertain future (since most of the...More

I am not sure of the exact times. I know that they close for lunch, like many places in Portugal. I suggest that you contact the Empresa Municipal de Belmonte. They have an email and Facebook address. Nesi'ah Tovah.
