Saw the new manga department advertised online so went to have a look, great choice, nothing else like it for miles around, was greatful to the shop for keeping numbers to a minimum as I have been shielding since the first lockdown and this was my first time out shopping, felt like safe environment. Waited a few minutes for someone to come out before we (me and my gf) to go in, there were maybe another 6 people in the shop so plenty of space. Bought a couple of books and pre-ordered another, staff were efficient and helpful

I was looking forward to visiting Browsers Bookshop in Porthmadog today (19/02/2022) as I had not been there since before lockdown. I went in and looked for the the hand sanitizer which I could not see. A staff member (older of the two staff) snapped at me to sanitize my hands, at first I thought she was telling me to go out. She was very rude and did not know how to treat a customer. I thought staff should at least smile and say hello to customers as they enter a shop not act like a rottweiler. I had a good look at the fiction and craft section. I then moved to the back of the shop where the artist materials are. I was looking the the pencils at the back and going round the section where the sketch pads are on, the same member of staff nearly collided into me as she rushed from the middle of the shop. I thought at first that she was serving a customer and was getting an item for them. No, she started tidying a section which I had not even touched. I moved to the children's section as I wanted a few books for my grandchildren. However, the same member staff moved towards where I was standing. I had by this time had enough and left the shop without buying anything. If this is Browsers call good customer service they won't be getting my custom ever again.

Brilliant old style bookshop with some very well thought out books on a vast array of genre's and art materials. As a mental health professional I was particularly impressed with their psychology and self help section which was discerningly stocked. Sian was a delight to talk with and was very well read herself... If I was local this would be my go to place. Beats Waterstones hands down! 🙂

... as the presence of an independent bookshop on the High Street cannot be taken for granted in these times. But oh! the air of negativity from behind the counter - moaning about the No. 6 Festival happening down the road in Portmeirion, audibly irritated when having to multi-task (more than 1 customer = good, no?) and - my favourite - seeing me with a postcard and asking 'do you intend paying for that?'. Perhaps she recognises someone who is 'careless' with money; only once home did I realise I'd been overcharged for 6 of the dozen items I'd bought.
In the interests of fairness I should say that my partner had a much more positive experience when buying art materials here, this time from a courteous chap. My experience of the customer service at Browsers - or just of their representative's basic manners - was dismal.

I was quite upset to read you had such a bad experience in Browsers and especially sad to hear that you had been overcharged. Should you ever be in the Porthmadog area again please call and we can put it right.
The Festival No6 was once again a great success for us. We had been so fortunate to be asked back there again, supporting the authors in the Piazza and able to appreciate the cultural and diveristy that No6 offers.
I am slightly bemused you felt we were moaning about the festival as we had been preparing and looking forward to it for months.
I am pleased your partner had better experience and hope that one day you have the opportunity to revisit.
Yours the courteous chap

I have been a customer of Browsers since the shop opened, in Portmadoc, and have regularly gone out of my way to give them my business.
On a recent visit to the shop, however, I was met with, what can only be described as, unacceptable rudeness and arrogance by a member of staff. On entering the shop I was instructed to use their hand sanitizer, and on expressing a preference to use my own sanitizer, I was ordered to present it to the member of staff, for inspection, to ensure that it contained 70% alcohol. At that point I decided that the attitude displayed by the staff member indicated that my business was neither wanted nor valued and left the shop.
I will never give Browsers the benefit of my business again, preferring to deal with either online dealers or my local Waterstones, businesses that continued to give a service throughout the recent pandemic.

Interesting titles on the shelf for all the family. Good on local history. Friendly, helpful knowledgeable staff. Titles not in stock and ordered arrive the following day. Also stocks a good range of artists materials, pens etc. cards and some stationery.

We were so happy to visit a 'real' bookshop. They have a great choice of books, not just the usual bestsellers. I went in for one book but I quickly found two! My husband and daughter then added two more books to be purchased.
They also sell good quality art materials and greetings cards.
The lady who served us was very friendly and polite.
It was a very rainy day in Porthmadog so it was nice to return to our holiday village and settle down with our new books.
We will definitely be visiting this lovely bookshop again on our next trip to north wales.

I loved independent bookshops. To be able to browse at your leisure, at books you may not find in major retailers is my idea of joy. This shop is not huge but I purchased3 books that I not found anywhere else, so I was a happy girl.
