We arrived at the winery just to pick up a few bottles for our daughter in law, when we tried to pay, their card swiping machine was not working, the fella kept trying to put the transaction through. Natalie came over to help, offering different ways to make it work, even entering the numbers manually, etc. Natalie and the young gentleman were looking after us just fine when Beth came over and started abruptly telling us we should contact our bank as our card was not working, Natalie tried to keep the situation professional, and reiterated to Beth that they had been having trouble with the machine all day, to which Beth kept on telling “us” there is a problem with your card. I tried to explain to Beth that I work for a bank and that I just used my card 15 mins prior to this transaction and it worked fine. Beth was very rude, abrupt and had a real attitude with us. When were were sitting in our car about to leave Beth came out, gave us “a look”, got into her car and charged out of the winery lot. Staff like Beth shouldn’t work with the public. Natalie and the younger gentleman were lovely, professional and accommodating, thank you for making us feel welcome even when your coworker was extremely unprofessional and rude.

Hi Samantha, After reading your review of your experience at my winery I am quite surprised by your review. After speaking with all the staff involved there did not seem to be any issue with the way Beth handled the transaction. Beth is our Operation Manager and was asked to help the staff figure out what the issue was with the machine. There was no personal issue and she was trying her best to figure out why the card was not working after hearing that Ethan had already tried multiple times to process it already. I have utmost confidence in my team and their professionalism in all situations. This is a very personal and undeserved review on a staff member that was doing their best to fix an issue. If you have any other thoughts please contact me directly at info@8thgeneration.com Stefanie Schales Owner

I went to this winery with friends. We were on the deck leading into the wine shop staying the appropriate distance from others. I touched a "dirty" menu and was YELLED at by a teenage staff member to not touch this item and " go stand over there"....pointing. I am a senior. Disrespectful rude and unnecessary treatment.
When we were finally called to the shop window we were asked by a different staff member " why are you here"? We are at your winery to taste and purchase some wine ...I was thinking??
Respectful kind calm treatment of customers is an absolute must. This winery has lost my business and that of friends and family I would have brought with me.

After having reviewed this day with staff and having been present myself during this day, I find this review quite surprising. We do have new guidelines in place in to ensure our guests and staff are kept safe and we must be sure that all guests follow these guidelines. This includes following the arrows laid out on our pathways and waiting to be greeted by our staff to check if you have a tasting booked or are here for a purchase. We try our best to accommodate walk up customers but again due to current restrictions we cannot not always offer tastings to every group that arrives. To address the dirty menu issue - sanitizing our tasting areas and menus between guests is of highest priority for us. This is to be sure that each and every guest can feel safe knowing they are in a clean and sanitized area. I understand how this may feel restrictive or feel that people are being too direct, but our staff must follow protocol put in place for the safety of everyone. We ask that people not sit or touch surfaces areas that have yet to be cleaned, this is yet again to ensure safety of all visiting our winery. I am confident that my staff did their very best to handle this situation. Our staff go above and beyond everyday to provide a welcoming experience to visitors.

The wine is great. But so is the majority of the wine in the Okanagan valley. It takes more than delicious wine to impress in this area of BC.

Between the arrangements being poor for a big group despite calling ahead and the wine poorer spoking so softly, it was almost impossible to enjoy the experience. To boot, they had a cheese tasting (it was a Sunday) in the same room that we were directed to and both the cheese representative and 8th Generation staff acted like overbearing school teachers while giving directions about what to try first. What a contrast, being shouted at to do one thing, but having to strain to hear anything about the wine, all while feeling like sardines in a tin can.

It's a real shame that the service was not only subpar but made myself and my group members feel uncomfortable. A number of people left mid-tasting; it was that intolerable.

I wish that were the end of the story. Instead, the leader of our group was called and berated by the staff at 8th Generation afterwards. To berate a customer after treating them poorly? To what end I wonder.

So like I said, the wine is wonderful, but the staff need a real attitude adjustment to provide an even equatable experience as those in the area where friendliness and accommodating smiles are the norm.

I don't imagine that the leader of our group will be headed 8th Generation way any time soon.

Hi sambgsam, I do appreciate everyone's opinion and certainly do like to hear back from my customers about their experiences. In your case (as we already talked on the phone) please let me explain my side of the story to you again. We were ready and set up with 20 glasses at the counter at 10:00am in the morning for your group, as this was the pre- arranged time. It would have worked great if you would have arrived at that time, as there is no cheese tasting in the morning and you would have had the whole room for your group. You arrived over an hour later and yes my staff worked with other customers, yes we where not set up anymore- how should we know you are still coming. I know my staff and had always received high marks about their deep industry knowledge and the pleasant/ professional personalities. That she advised to taste a certain cheese with the wine in your glass is in my opinion not an act of an "overbearing school teacher". Some of the cheeses are very intense and can definitely spoil the wine experience- so she (incl. the cheese maker on site) tried just to make it right for you. I tried to explain this series of bad circumstances to your group leader with the intension to let her know that we do run a tight ship on a July weekend. I also tried to explain to her that we do have a tasting fee of $4,- if nothing gets purchased and explained to her that only a certain amount of wine can get poured and we are responsible for not over serving. I'm sorry if your leader and you felt uncomfortable but do think your comments like "staff needs a real attitude adjustment" are not fair either. We do consider each & every piece of feedback as important and we'll use this information to improve for the future. Again, we appreciate the candidness of your comments and wish you well.

From the outset, the tasting lady was rude. She was difficult to deal with and no fun to be around. When we asked about other wines that we were interested in purchasing, she indicated that we would absolutely not be able to taste them.

Their wines were mediocre at best, but it’s the service that will keep me from ever going back. So many good wineries in the Summerland area, don’t waste your time with this one.

Skip this winery. The staff were snooty and the wine is just O.K. This area has tonnes of options of wineries to hit, don't waste your time on this one.

A nice stop driving through Summerland. Lots of history about the property and the owners. The gardens around the tasting room are beautiful. Good wines too that are reasonably priced.

Loved this winery. The history is awesome, and the people were friendly. Loved their bookmark, looking forward to marking my books with it. A frequent reminder, of where to go back to.

They have remodelled the original house for the wine tasting room. Worth a drop by too look at it. Very accurate attention to detail. We always leave with a couple of bottles

If the great wines and interesting history aren't enough to make you love this place, Shirley definitely will! She was so personable and funny, she definitely knew how to work the room and make a wine tour fun! The rest of the staff were equally as pleasant and welcoming. Highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area!
