We enjoy markets around the world since they give a small glimpse of life of a city. This market is small but nice and appropriate to the size of the small town. You can have a bite to eat (inexpensive) and the places here were clean with fresh food and produce. You can sit here for hours and be desintoxicated... More

Either love it or hate it... It's a real Mexican market. Each booth is owned by different people and they sell differant things. One will sell vegetables, the next fruit, the next paper goods, then shoes, but socks are 2 booths down. I could figure no reason to the order... but it was sort of fun for about an hour,... More

Nothing special about the market, there are much better ones in every bigger town on Yucatan. But, the place to go if you need some fruit, cheap meal or even a souvenir. It is just a few steps from the convent and bus station

We often shop at this colorful mercado, especially for local exotic fruits, and have become friends with several of the local, friendly vendors who always greet us by name and usually a hug. It's a happy place to shop!

We always enjoy markets as a slice of life so perhaps we are biased on this visit. It was interesting the see the locals out shopping for their food and clothes. We wandered around the meat market (not for the faint of heart perhaps). Fruit and vegetable market lively and good to see the wonderful range of food. We then... More

Average market ... there are better markets in YUC and elsewhere in MX! It is pretty decent for a small town market and the smoothies we had were quite nice and fairly priced but there is not much variety which you can get at bigger markets in Mérida etc. Only if you need a bite to eat really.

If you want to get a feel for daily life in Mexico, don't miss the Big Mercado in Itzamal. In the heart of the city across from the Santuario de la Virgen de Izamal church. The Market opens in the morning and closes in the afternoon so you have to get there early. Sample local tacos and fruit drinks, wander... More
