The Ruakuri cave is located away from the main Glowworm cave. Transport can be arranged there and back. We did the tour on a Sunday morning 9am and we were the only two people on the tour. The guide didn't mind, but was very enthusiastic and provided lots of information about the caves history and its cultural significance and of... More

This cave turned out to be better than the Glowworm Cave probably because of the high expectation with the Glowworm Cave. The spiral walk entry to the bottom of the cave made this an interesting beginning. We were amazed with all the different kind of limestone formations. As the guide described all these takes hundred or thousands of years to... More

I reviewed this under the Glowworm caves as it was part of booked tour. This cave is entered by a circular ramp going down 15 metres and the tour is a couple of hours. Plenty of Maori history involved. Good guides, we had a small group (8) so it was at a leisurely pace.

We had a wonderful tour in November 2016. The guide was very knowledgeable. He later admitted that he had only been in New Zealand a few months. I never would have guessed! He knew a lot of history and gave us an up close look at the cave formations and glow worms. I would highly recommend this tour.

You are in a smaller group, not over-run by bus tours and are given more information on the longer tour of the caves. You still see glow-worms as well as interesting limestone formations

The descent down to the cave was aesthetic on its own, and there was so much to see in the caves. The stalactites and stalagmites were wonderful, and i loved seeing the curtains. Got to see glowworms up close. Guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

Paddy, a nice young man from the local area, was our friendly Black Water Rafting tour guide. The Ruakuri Caves were well worth seeing, and according to our bus driver may have been key to our success at seeing the glowworms during our rainy-day visit. He told us boats are used for the portion of the Waitomo Caves where the... More

Best cave by far within the Waitomo Caves options. Even the man made spiral entrance takes your breath away. Loved the easy walk through the cave, the different areas, the ribbon stalictites and sound of rushing water. There are glow worms in the cave, however if you are after the glow worm experience, the original Glow worm cave would be... More

Loved this tour. Had already visited Waitomo and wanted to do a double cave experience. The cave was amazing and the tour guide was excellent. However for me the whole thing was spoilt by two things. A family whose children couldn't behave if they tried. Touching everything and putting lights on their phones when specifically asked not to. Also a... More
