Beautiful hike

The hike takes about two hours to do. The trail loops and is well marked. You can see the valley from the top if it's not too cloudy.

If you are expecting thermal springs (like those found in the Central Valley in Costa Rica), you will be disappointed. Skip it!

After reading the review by Scott C of New York, we entered the park from the Los Mandarinos hotel as he - came from Los Mandarinos, turned left, saw the sign, then walked up the hill until we saw the yellow shack. From there, we saw two paths, and weren't sure which to take. Unlike Scott C we took the... More

This is a nature hike. Our guide "Joe" booked through Nexus was marvellous. Very knowledgeable, a snake specialist, and patient. At first, I couldn't understand the slow pace but soon got it it. This man is attuned to nature, he sees things because he knows how to look. He hears things, and then knows to look. The walk, though not... More

Of course the nature is spectacular, we saw several beautiful birds and a sloth. But as with most touristy things in Panama, very little effort to make a place easily accessible or maintain a site is the case here. We found the entrance after asking several people along the way. The entrance fee is cheap...$2 for residents $5 for tourists.... More

Starting from the city centre of El Valle, we hiked along the road until we continued on a small trail up. We found mandarins along the track and as we got higher the ecosystem changed. The last bit up was very slippery and fun. We really needed the ropes to get all the way to the top from where we... More

The back entrance to ElGaital is a bit hard to find (if you have faith and just keep on the main road until the final Y you'll be OK) but there is nobody there to charge you, parking is safe, and the 2.5 km loop is obvious. Signage is terrible - go uphill and bear left (counterclockwise). Birds, plants, leaf-cutter... More

Beautiful hike with a view over El Valle up to the see at the end of the hike. It feels comfortable to use a guide but you can walk it alone. The path is clearly lined out.

El Gaital National park has a nice two hour lushes trail to the top of the m idle mountain with a beautiful view of the eastern end of the El Valle crater. There are other trails to the top of the other mountains but you need scaling ropes to get there.

Two trails provide loop access to an observation point which gives a great view of El Valle. The trail to the right at the entrance is steep in places, a good one to start with, because the trail to the left is more gentle (and easier to navigate). Birding in this area is great. The trails are generally narrow, so... More
