Magnificent

Incredibly amazing views all along the route. Definitively recommend, either by car, motorbike or bycicle. Highlight of our trip to the Gorges du Verdon.
Note: the route is partially one way, so you have to start right outside La Palud, direction Castellane, to drive the entire circuit.

Get away from the tourist filled roads and cities in South of France

Perfect drive, barely 1-2 hours from the city of Nice. Drive through nice scenery, stop by Pont de l'Artuby and sign up for a bungee jump from a bridge 182 meters down into a narrow gorge. Just bring water on hot days, as you have to walk/climb/hike up again, not a difficult challenge, but wear sneakers or similar. It will take you 30 minutes fast hike or 1 hour leisure hike to climb back up - and then you need water.

Scenic Driving Route with Spectacular Views of les Gorges de Verdon
Jun. 2019 • Couples
We drove this 24 km. scenic route on the north side of les Gorges de Verdon early one weekday morning in the first week of June. One way traffic from the starting point just east of La Palud-sur-Verdon all the way to Chalet de la Maline where the road operates in both direction for about 10 km back to La Palud. Breathtaking views from 14 belvédères along the way, including Col. d’Illoire which also has a few picnic tables in the glades on the downhill side of the roadway across a small wooden bridge. At the summit (where it was just 12 degrees Celsius at 10 o’clock in the morning!), we saw a chamois at the side of the road and vautours circling in the air currents overhead.

The most thrilling driving experience outside Disneyland!
Jun. 2019 • Couples
Takes a good skilled driver / rider to enjoy driving this road. One of the best driving experiences you can have in Europe, both on car and motorbike.
Worth stopping at every corner, as views are different and really spectacular.
Go as soon as you can!

A nice drive with views

After reading about the route des Cretes I was quite surprised to find it such an easy route with no real dangerous areas along the road. It does have a one way system where the road narrows so you need to approach it from the eastern side or you will have to turn back. The views are quite spectacular along the route including various viewing points with parking to take in the vista. We were entranced with the Griffon Vultures flying along on the thermals, a stunning sight.

Panoramic and terrifying in equal measure

Well worth a drive (or cycle) around this rout at the top of the gorge. Lots of photo opportunities. Take your nerves of steel for driving.

Beautiful panoramas

This road is sort of an add-on to the road going through the Gorges du Verdon on the North side. But by all means don't miss it though it will add 1 hour to your trip. The views are incredible.

One of the greatest views in france
Jul. 2018
This round course is a very good activity. You can follow this street around one of the biggest canyons in europe while following the verdon.

Every second minute you find a view that outmatches the one before. It is really impressive and only needs like 2 hours. Good to do by car or bike.

We stopped at one point where you can watch 700m straight down into the valley with the verdon. That is one view I tell ya.
