As the landmark in Petra, you need to take the steps up to the church. Mention is made of the steps but it’s not a difficult climb and the views are certainly worth it. As is common in Greek churches, the inside is highly decorative.

Atop of the huge stone which gave the name of the old fishmen village (Petra = Stone, in Greek), there is an interesting church, surrounded by the ruins of a Byzantine - Genovese castle. The actual church was built in the mid of 18th century...More

Beautiful little church with great views, steps are not that difficult to climb at all. Well worth the small effort to get to the top! Best time to visit just before sunset

It is hard to miss this church perched on top of the rock formation in the center of Petra. It is responsible for Petra's name and likely its very existence. Please note that this is a church and respectful attire is required to enter the...More

It's the first thing you notice arriving at the village of Petra. A huge mono-block rock, of about 50 meters tall, on top of which, there is a stone built church. A really impressive view. The church is dedicated to the Greek Orthodox Virgin Mary....More

Definitely worth the walk up the steps which don't seem like 114. If you intend going inside the church need to cover up no shorts and t-shirts. Can stand at the doorway and take photos, lovely courtyard and views of the Aegean
