The enoteca in the Fortezza provides tasting of many of the wineries in the Montalcino area. We have returned every time we are in Montalcino. The Fortezza itself is a small fort overlooking Montalcino and is well worth the visit.

This fort is still around and solid. These forts are amazing and I believe the trapezoidal indentations are for the archers to defend the fort. Walked around the top parapet and the views are tremendous.

You can visit the courtyard of the fortress at the top of Montalcino for free, which is quite interesting, but the walk around the walls is the real attraction.
