This museum is set in the old town waterworks and features railways, transport and local history. The tower is named after Thomas Crampton, a famous designer of locomotives and railways. Displays include examples of Crampton’s working drawings and models, copies of his patents, and some of the many awards that he was given. I particularly liked the 1860 stage coach... More

There are probably positive aspects to this area, if you like model trains and tales about water tower, although very keen, I like to explore and ask questions, I want allowed to do this so disappointing to me an lacking in any character .

Was really good seeing all the trains and old transport pictures and the tower itself. Great place and I would recommend this to anyone who is into trains.

Took the little people to Crampton Tower to see Santa yesterday. It was fantastic. Kids were spellbound. The tower has been transformed into an extension of Santa's workshop with a guided tour by two of his elves. It was very magical. The kids are still talking about the reindeer on the roof. The museum was good fun while we were... More

Visited late afternoon with a 6 year old and a 9 year old, the 2 staff volunteers were so helpful answering all my children's questions age appropietly and told them to count all the colourful mice dotted around the museum, which they loved doing and at the end they were given some sauviners, even though they were due to close... Inside the the old water tower that served Broadstairs and surrounding buildings, the museum hides with train sets, models, toys as well as the story of the tower and the history and works of the engineer Thomas Crampton. Well worth a visit for an hour or so.

We visited with the kids and were welcomed by two very friendly gentlemen who were opening up for the day. We were informed that sadly due to gale force winds that had blown off the roof of one of the museum's sections back in January, only the water tower and old water tank were open. In light of this, they... More

This is a slightly eclectic mix of railway ephemera (model and real), housed in a very interesting water tower. As with these sorts of attractions, it's staffed by knowledgeable and likeable coves. You look at several model railway exhibits, including one of Broadstairs railway station of yesteryear, cleverly reconstructed. I'll be honest; as an attraction, the NRM in York doesn't... More
