The Falls of Shin is such a pleasing place to relax and watch salmon leaping from the dynamic waterfall. The Falls of Shin are spectacular in their own right, but the sight of leaping salmon makes them even more special and something not to be missed. Falls of Shin is recognised as being one of the best places worldwide to watch leaping Atlantic Salmon. The fish can be seen anytime between May and November, with the late summer months making this almost guaranteed. Following a fire which saw the former building burn to the ground, the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, on behalf of the community were successful with a Stage 1 BIG Lottery application and were invited to make a Stage 2 funding application. The design concept of the building, created by CH Architecture, is loosely based on the image of a fish and is made up of a head, body and tail. Each part forms a distinctive function. We are proud to have a 4* rating on TripAdvisor and another 4* with the Visit Scotland Rating Scheme. Please feel free to leave your own visitor comments! The centre will feature a 60 seat cosy café, a gift shop with local produce stocked, an exhibition and interpretation area, a children’s play area along with an events plaza. This will all fit into the surroundings of the on-site forest and of course the leaping salmon.

Travelling by motorhome around Scotland. Saw a few Salmon but I was more impressed by the new Cafe. Friendly staff, huge portion meals and well cooked. Well done.

The Falls of Shin is not somewhere many people will ever "happen to be passing," but I managed it recently. Having seen (but not entered) the visitors' centre, I was actually surprised how small the falls themselves were - still impressive for the volume and...More

I am usually lucky any time I am there. The summer months are best but be patient and prepared to spend at least half an hour. Good luck.
