Awesome place for scuba diving

Although it takes a while to get there with a boat, it is an amazing place to do scuba diving, lots of nice fishes and deep points , even snorkeling is worth the trip !

La Isla de la Plata is a protected natural area which is part of the Machalilla National Park. The island is reachable within two hours by boat from Puerto Lopez. It is called the poor man's Galapagos because of it's similar tropical dry vegetation but mostly because the island is home to the famous Blue-footed booby (marine bird) which can... More

If you are travelling around the coast of Ecuador, DO NOT miss Isla de La Plata, you should spare a day to get there and after 1h45 mins of sailing you will be at one of the most beautiful places to spot rare species such as Blue-footed boobies, Nazca-boobies and Red-footed boobies. Also, it is a jewel to spot Red-billed... More

We booked a day tip through Rosita Tours located opposite the pier. Cost was $35, at this time of year (January) there are no whales to observe. There were 14 people on the trip. The crossing to Isla de la Plata takes around one hour by boat from the pier. Although the sea was relatively calm, the trip is quite... More

The Isla de la Plata is located 50 km from the coast of Puerto López, province of Manabí, Ecuador. It is one of the greatest attractions of the Machalilla National Park. Its fame goes back many years, and its main characteristic is the diversity of birds that inhabit the place. It is known as the Galapagos Island of the poor.... More

This is known as the poor man's Galapagos. I can see why as you can see a number of the things that you can see on the Galapagos. Having been to both, Isla de la Planta is worth going to, it is a lovely opportunity to see the wildlife and natural beauty much nearer to the mainland. We were on... More

We took this tour not exactly knowing what to expect. I hr boat ride from Puerto Lopez. Can get a bit choppy so FYI if prone to sea sickness. Decent size boat and very safe. 3 different hikes offered on the island. Our group opted for the intermediate hike. Took approx 2 hrs? Was surprised by all the birds we... More

The boat ride was slightly uncomfortable but worth it as we got to see different groups of humpback wales. It was spectacular beyond belief and a real humbling moment in life. The Island was lovely but don't expect to see much wildlife. We saw turtles from the boat but the island only has the blue footed boobies. It was a... More

Don't waste your money by advance booking! We got tickets in Puerto Lopez the night before for $40 each. Tour includes Whale watching in season June through September. We saw lots of them in late September. Many males breaching in displays to court females. The tour on the island is very interesting, but better if you understand Spanish as guides... More

I highly recommend to visit. In september, it wasnt hot at all and we saw lots of whales, bluefoot bobbies, fragatas and other animals/plants pointed out by our guide. I had a great experience with company Aventuras La Plata - as mentioned before, their boats are really much quicker that others. Even though we left with a little delay (which... More
