About
The Villa Reale was built at the wish of the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria between 1777 and 1780, as a summer residence for her son Ferdinand. It followed the typical model of Lombard country homes. The building was planned by Piermarini, in neo-classical style, with a C-shaped layout and a central reception block. To these were added two lateral wings for the rooms and a further two sections dedicated to the servants and the stables. The total number of rooms was close to seven hundred.

Fantastic view
Nov. 2019
The palace grounds are impressive, very good for relaxing and watching nature. There was renovation works being carried out on my visit so I didn’t get to see much as it was blocked off. The palace is next to the park where the Monza circuit is and if you get bored then a short walk / drive and you’re at your next point of interest.

Must See Villa
Nov. 2019
For a person who has never seen the inside of a grand estate, this is a good place to start. Beautiful rooms and lovely park setting, this estate is Jane Austin's novel come to life. As you roam the halls and rooms, you can almost see the occupants lounging. The villa was restored in 2014 and took two years to get the rooms back in their original state.

Make sure to get tickets for the entire tour. The Private apartments have the original furnishings and are the best part of the visit. Because this Villa is not so famous, it is not very busy and you can enjoy the grounds without crowds.

Confusing tour of royal apartments
Aug. 2018 • Couples
Visited late in the day to tour the building, but found the ticket options very confusing and signage very poor. Our ticket got a tour of the royal apartments which took around 45 minutes. The guides told you how to use the audioguide, but also added their own knowledge. In the end it was all a bit confusing, and for €19 for less than an hour we gave up trying to view other parts of the building. Needs better and clearer signage. It was a shame because we had previously heard good things about the Villa

Bad translations
Aug. 2018 • Friends
Quite an interesting place to visit. Although inside wasn’t done up much, that kind of added to its charm.. good to see something in the raw for a change. The design museum was good. in particular I liked the chance to see how the roof structure of the building had been put together.

Must say though that the translations of the info from Italian to English were really poor and sometimes incomprehensible. Why can’t these places pay a few extra quid to a proper translator if they do feel the need to,spend time and money on info plaques.

Monza is a very beautiful place to visit if you're in Milan. You must visit "Villa Reale" maybe the most beautiful thing in Monza. The ticket is expansive but we used tourscanner.co to buy the ticket and we saved a lot of money!

DISAPPOINTING
Apr. 2018 • Couples
We expected more according to the advertisement. The palace looks tired outside and inside, it must be renovated. The royal apartments are not so impressive. Only few rooms and some furniture. Among the royal furniture were little statues with cartoon characters and Lenin's faces (very inappropriate). In the library there are plates not books. And the guide is not a true guide, is somebody who explain how to use the audio guide and limit your time in every room.
