Very nice and central beach. But in August it is full of people and becomes very chaotic. We enjoyed this beach during the night hours, as it is well lit. It is useful to take a pair of shoes for the sea with you because there are stones under the water.

Beach area with sunbeds
Food stall and cold beers available.
Very stoney beach so beach shoes required if you want to go into the water.

Staying at Polignano and looking for a beach we arrived at cala paura.. it has an interesting closed bay area where it is nice to swim and you can rent a seat and an umbrella. There’s also a snack bar and a toilet but no shower unfortunately..
Be prepared for a sardine-experience so don’t come here if you like space around you.
When we were leaving the seat renters almost chased us away.. not a customer centric approach.. We paid 18€ for 2 beds and an umbrella..

Stumbled across this trying to find another beach. The sea was dirty from the stones, if you swam further out it was better. Lots of cigarettes butts around sun beds. These cost 6€ each. Luckily we left before being charged. The beach bar and grill however was very good, amazing seafood straight on the bbq. Very reasonable cost.

There are two “beaches” in Polignano a mare.

The best beach is in the centre of town with the cliffs around it.

The beach at Cala Paura is more a slipway with sunbeds and people taking up any space they can find. 2 beds and a parasol cost 18 euros but people reserve them for the whole week and sometime whilst it looks like there are plenty of empty beds, none are actually available.

There is a shack doing drinks and food on a grill and this was very good.

The beach is rocky and beach shoes are needed.

I was there in early June. It was packed with younger Italians. If you are prepared to muck in it is a good cultural experience seeing them having fun. The water was cool but comfortable and provided for great swimming across the bay. On the south side of the bay you can jump 1 metre to enter the water without having to slip over rocks and there is also an exit point there provided you have basic fitness.

This is a public beach. In season you will need to get up early to get a paid for chair and umbrella. If not there are are plenty of rocks to perch on. Top tip. Bring a little chair to sit on if you can. There is a small caffe serving coffe. Ice cream and seafood fried fresh. You can rent a pedallo for 12 euro per hour. You will need to leave ID.

Keep walking past the main beach (which is packed) and walk 10 mins to this spot. Full of locals or visiting Italians. No need to worry about rocks. Pop ur towel and bag on the pathways around the cove (like everyone else) and you can jump in and splash around. THEN LUNCH straight from the sea, onto the grill and 6 euro for a whole octopus. Fresh delicious authentic. We've done it 2 days in a Row now. Plus you can get the paddle boats here for 12 euro an hour if you want!

This beach is a short walk from the centre of Polignano, and it is possible to hire sunbeds and parasols there. The bar-cum-restaurant was serving what looked like very good grilled fish at lunchtime. The actual beach is not so good, however, as there is no sand, and I found my plastic beach sandals filled up with the fine pebbles, which was very uncomfortable.

Nice caves. Can be hard on places. Worth coming this way with a fantastic view, would definitely recommend.
