Looe Bar beach is lovely, very windy and quiet. We walked from the large free car park near Helston and it was just over 10K and took us less than 3 hours, plus time to stop for the loo at the National Trust ‘The Stables’ (pretty walled garden and a small coffee shop) and then for a picnic on Looe Bar itself.
Looe Pool can’t be seen for much of the walk around it due to the woods close to the waters edge. Not too strenuous a walk. The National Trust car park is very small and fills quickly. It is about a half an hour walk from Loor Bar to Porthleven.

You can drive and park here or walk from Porthleven(about 2km) 30-45 min walk and not too strenuous.
We were here when the seas were big and waves crashed violently onto the beach but just over the sand bar is the tranquility of the freshwater lake.
It fantastic in winter,so must be amazing in the summer, albeit a little busier I suspect!!!!

This is a fascinating and beautiful area with good walks - I wish we had had longer for our visit!
The focal point is the Loe Bar, a shingle and sand bar cutting of the pool form the sea; I understand that swimming is very dangerous but at low tide there's good sand and plenty of space even at high tide. Behind the bar there are walks in the woods and around the pool - it's about 6 miles all the way round. There’s a “green gym” along one of the main walks and the local history is interesting too. The SW coast path crosses the bar too providing plenty of walking opportunities with wonderful views across Mounts Bay.

We did the 1hr circular walk from the Debign lane carpark, we turned right walking through the car park down a steepish concrete lane.
We were soon into glorious woodland with views over loe pool. It's a mystical and ancient place formed when loe bar cut off the once thriving river to Helstons port.
The sign posts aren't great so we are still not sure if we did the walk we thought...but it was lovely and a place we will return to.
Probably best avoid after rain as it can be muddy and very slippery. Some steep sections but plenty of peace and tranquillity

This is an extremely dangerous body of water, just this week a horse was spooked & ended up in Loe pool with it's rider. Both the horse & rider were dragged beneath the water twice & only just managed to get out. Also the pool has been known to have green algae which is highly toxic & dogs have been extremely ill.
Avoid going in this pool at all costs, stay safe.
PS local legend says it's cursed
We are locals & live just along the coast.

Really lovely walk from Porthleven along the cliff tops to reach Loe Pool. It is abeautiful site, even on the dull day we visited it. A few up and downs, and some pathways blocked, thanks to National Trust improvements, and safety works. Very pleasent wandering along well defined paths, and overlooking the deep dark waters of Loe Pool.Good morning out, and as a reward bonus, ended up a pub in Porthleven.

A beautiful area to visit if you like peace and quiet. A short relatively easy 10 minute walk from the free parking area at the top of the hill. No swimming in the sea as dangerous but stunning beach for sunbathing. Lovely area for walking the dog

I went to Loe Bar, where a mysterious flint and sand bank the formed in the late medieval period splits the ocean from a fresh water lake that was once a river, Loe Pool. I went to Swim in Loe Pool which, as long as you are aware of how to swim safely outdoors, is wonderful. Calm, beautiful and relaxing.
I must mention that you MUST NOT swim on the sea side of the bar. There are signs everywhere, and a number of people have been killed by the freak waves and powerful currents at that side. No matter how strong a swimmer you think you are, don't do it. But why would you, when the gorgeous Loe Pool is just feet away?

A really nice walk goes through the footpaths that goes down the side of the cober river into Looe Pool and then onto the Bar. the other great thing is there is a Café in Penrose where if you find it a bit of a walk you can have a cup of tea or cold drink.. Excellent walk of about 2-3 miles

Looe Bar is just so beautiful and untouched, swimming here is dangerous but the walks and view is just incredible and I never get board with this.

Hello. I walked from Penrose hill to porthlevan today along the re routed coastal path. I wanted to get down to loo bar & the beach...to walk up to the the monument. It seemed to be blocked off by the building work? Can I access the bar/ beach? I live very nearby so not on a timescale.

Yes the beach is accessible via a path close to the house by the coastal path.
Just don’t swim there, it’s very dangerous

Hi is there a walk which we can get to Loe Bar but not to near a cliff no head for heights or drops !

You can approach Loe Bar from the Gunwallow side avoiding steep cliffs. Take the turning from the main road signposted Berepper ( on the Lizard side of Culdrose main gate).
After a couple of miles the road takes a sharp left towards Gunwallow. At this point there is a 'no through road' sharp right, signed Loe Bar. There is some parking part way down, then a rough track down to the bar.
The car parking is limited and isolated so make sure your car is locked and no valuables visible.
There used to be a bus in the early morning and mid afternoon on school days which runs as far as the Gunwallow turn. You will need to check if it still runs.
