Really, really helpful National Trust staff, plenty of surprises, some great modern sculpture and magnificent views to the Abbey. If you're a National Trust member, don't give your money to the 'enemy' (English Heritage!), just go here. Seriously, this was a splendid visit. It takes...More

It's a terrace - built above Rievaulx Abbey to show off the views of both ruins and the countryside. That is it's primary aim and it does so very well. There are two buildings built to serve those who visited the place at the time...More

Walked to Rievaulx from Helmsley (about two and a half miles each way) then up to Rievaulx Terrace. A lovely walk along the terrace first bit through woodland and then along the open terrace with fantastic view across to the abbey and the wonderful countryside....More

A nice place to visit. The view points on the top terrace looking down to the old abbey are amazing! The kids loved the brass rubbings activity as we walked through the wood as well as the play area..

Not a place for a long visit, but interesting netherless, especially if you've done the Abbey before. Gives you high level views over the Abbey to the surrounding countryside, and gives a glimpse of his the gifts lived it up in the 1700s.

Amazing temple with a very clever ceiling painting. We thought it was 3D until the guide explained. Make sure you catch this guide in the temple he has an excellent manner! Beautiful views from the terrace.

The Ionic Temple and Duncombe family history made really interesting by the knowledgeable NT guide. Stroll along the terrace and Rievaulx Abbey can be seen down in the valley. The Tuscan Temple isn't open to visitors but one can view the ceiling using strategically placed...More
