17th-century castle owned by the same family for over 350 years. Open April to September; access is by guided tours only. There are steep spiral stairs to the upper floors. A stunning castle in a wonderful setting, said to be the inspiration for Disney's castles.

We normally don't like guided tours, as they tend to be too long and not so interesting, but this castle is worth a visit as a comparison to the many ruined castles in the area. Lots of family history inside, and surprising some of the...More

I was returning from the Isle of Lewis down the east coast and love my castles. This was the first one I had seen in Scotland that the Victorians hadn't ruined. It has kept a lot of it old charm Really enjoyed my time there...More

Although the castle was closed when we visited, it is worth noting that the road to the castle is kept open in the close season, as is the car park, so I assume that they get visitors to do the woodland walks etc. We came...More

Thank you for your review, the castle closes at the end of September and we will re-open on Good Friday 30th March 2018. The grounds and woodland walks remain open all year round from sunrise to sunset; however, in bad weather the drive may become...More

They say this was the inspiration for the Disney castle at the intro to their films, but I think a certain castle in Bavaria might have had an input too...that's not to knock this one, which is pretty as a picture and compact too. I...More

We had tried to visit this castle on our last trip, 2 years ago, but it had closed early for the season and we were disappointed upon arrival. But, this time, all was well, and we showed up just in time to join a tour....More

This is a truly beautiful castle that is often overlooked by visitors to the area who tend to go to the better known Castle Fraser & Crathes Castle. If you want to see a castle as it truly would have been before modern times, this...More

Craigievar is everyones image of a typical Scottish castle. The guide John took us on an amusing and informative tour of this beautiful homely castle with its windey spiral stairs.Lovely rooms, not in the style of stately homes but for everyday living.

This is a little jewel of a Castle. Probably the closest to everyone's mental image of a fairy-tale castle.

With some a little bit of sun, the views are spectacular. The castle has its nice pink color because of the plaster. The guides, extremely friendly, explain what happened down here. Very human!

A place we have had on our bucket list for some time. The pink castle did not disappoint. A very knowledgeable guide made this a lovely visit for us. The stairs can be a bit tricky to negotiate . The views are amazing. Nice staff...More

No trains head west from Aberdeen, Nearest station would be Inverurie, which is about 20miles NE of castle. There are busses that pass on the road a mile or two to the south of the castle but they aren't at all frequent.
