This Inn and restaurant is run by a very friendly and helpful family who made us feel very welcome. Excellent food and a huge selection of whiskey! Renovations are being carried out at the moment to update the rooms but we were very comfortable and warm and would definitely go back. The bar and restaurant was full and vibrant on a Tuesday evening. Very close to the station and the local supermarket and the harbour in Mallaig.

We were spending a few hours on Skye on our way from Inverie to Mallaig and needed a place to store our backpacks while exploring. After checking a few places, we hit on the restaurant at the Chlachain Inn. The were incredibly friendly and helpful and agreed to let us store our packs - and would not accept any payment or even a tip for the courtesy! When we returned to Mallaig, we figured the least we could do is eat lunch at the restaurant - that was a great decision. The food and service were outstanding! We did not stay at the hotel, so I can’t really comment on that, but you will not be disappointed by the restaurant.

Not the first time we’ve eaten here and it won’t be the last. Friendly team, and the food is delicious. I’m gluten free and dairy free and had choices (not just take it or leave it!) and they double checked to make sure it was right. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely overnight stay in this warm, clean, friendly Inn. Staff were excellent and dog friendly! The food was amazing with fantastic portions and choice (also catered for vegan/vegetarian) we had a great full Scottish breakfast in the morning to set us up for our ferry trip. Then when you think the service can’t get any better I managed to forget an item in our room and they very kindly posted this back to our home address without delay! Fabulous find in a great location-don’t miss out!

Just stopped here for lunch as part of our Jacobite Train journey and the food and service was very good. I am gluten free and allergic to milk and I just had a very lovely cajun chicken sandwich with bacon and fries. Even the salad garnish was incredibly tasty. We would recommend.

I had been looking for a handy coffee and scones stop for a group of 17 people + packed lunches for them and had found the Clachain Inn online, having had no previous dealings. What a find! Lovely homemade scones, jam and cream were provided and coffee drinkers voted the coffee the best all holiday. The group were travelling on the train afterwards and raved about the packed lunches. A very successful visit. Ross Macpherson and his wife are running an excellent place and Ross's friendliness is what Highland hospitality is all about.

We arrived a little early on a February's Thursday night and wondered how we would pass the evening in a small town. We settled down to a cracking meal in front of the fire and after too many games of pool and darts the pub quiz came on. What a great night, all credit to this establishment for an all round effort, from the kitchen to the bar staff and the quiz compere. Well done.

We came off the Jacobite on a cold wintry day and found this wonderful pub with its roaring fire. Staff were very friendly and attentive and their Cullen Skink is to die for.

I liked the name and went in. Had a nice evening with good Food, and the staff was friendly. I went again next night, but as it was Thursday and Pub Quiz Day, the pub was very full. I took my meal at the bar and then later got a table. I went before the quiz started.
