About
The Kaatza Station Museum, located in a 1912 Canadian Pacific train station, is home to the history of the Cowichan Lake region. Featuring the history of the region, from pre-European settlement to the present, and everything in between. Exhibits feature the history of the logging industry, including the IWA Union, rolling stock used on the various logging railways, model rail lines and early settler houses, and the history of the local communities around Cowichan Lake.

We were extremely impressed with the way the museum is set out. The info provided was so interesting and informative and readable - in so many museums, you can't read the labels. The newspaper articles were fascinating. Obviously the staff and most likely some volunteers as well are really knowledgeable and dedicated. The museum really gives you a vivid glimpse of the economic and social life of the early settlers in the last century in Lake Cowichan. Nice to see! Thank you so much and keep it up.

This museum has some interesting exhibits and artifacts but it is very Eurocentric and colonial in its history. It omits any reference to the First Nations who lived on this land for millennia. It features the “first permanent settlers”, two white men who came in the late 19th century. We tried to discuss our concerns with the woman at the desk, but she was hostile and dismissive. The name “Kaatza”” is First Nations, Cowichan, in origin. Ironically, the museum ignores that fact.

nice easy place with local history, helps to understand the city. museum entry is by donation. the outdoor exhibits are also very nice

There is a train you can walk all over and see how it works. This is outside so you can go when you want and it is free. The museum features local lumber industry history.

A nice place to drop by to learn more about the town. Definitely the inside is way more interesting than it seems from the outside. This attraction is free (they accept donations so please do) so there's nothing to lose really.

We arrived after hours, but enjoyed the outside displays, especially those related to how trains figured in early logging work. I'm a sucker for trains.

The Kaatza Museum is for anyone interested in the History of Logging in the early years (even before chainsaws) From the logger - logging camp living - sawmills - rail transport & to the communities around Lake Cowichan. The museum displays are well exhibited to show even a "newbee" how life in the logging industry was. Thanks to the Volunteers who look after this museum. Well Done!

Great little museum. Entry is by donation. There are some nice trains and artifacts of the early days of logging. Big parking lot, A&W across the street, take a break here if you're heading to Port Renfrew.
