It is great pagoda in Monywar.
Specially I like the color of mix because most of the Pagodas in Myanmar are gold.
And I like very much interior and exterior design.

We visited the Po Win Daung Caves and the Thanboddhay Pagoda in one day with our Tuk Tuk Driver Mr Htike. He knew so many very interesting places and he was able to explain the history behind. We can recommend Mr Htike very much, mr.htike145@gmail.com.

Mohnyin Thanboddhay Pagoda is the only pagoda with unique architectural design in the whole country.
There are many different Buddha statues, row by row along the walls: the total number is 582,257. An amazing figure! Unlike other pagodas in Myanmar. Allow to pay homage inside the pagoda till 5:30 pm.

This is the place I always want to visit every time I have to travel to Monywa. Find it very peaceful to be able to pray inside the pagoda.

You will see so many temples in Myanmar, but this one is unique and well worth a visit. We did this as part of a day spent driving from Mandalay to Bagan, and this combined with the other sites made for one of our best days.
The Thanboddhay Paya has a unique feel of kitsch. The people of Myanmar aren't so into subtlety with their temples, and this one is over the top in its color scheme and in the number of Buddha carvings of many different sizes. I have read estimates from 500,000 to 5,000,000 carvings of Buddha. We spent about an hour there, and it was absolutely worth every minute.
For the trip from Mandalay to Bagan, we visited the 1000 budddhas, the giant Buddhas of Bodhi Tataung, this, and Phowintaung. Each site was WELL worth the time and extra distance required to get there. We left at 8AM and got to Bagan at about 7PM, so it was long but great day.

This temple complex offers the image of popular perception of religious cult. It does not reflect "high" artistic values in either the architecture or decoration. But the shape and colours cause that we stand, look and say "fantastic". The golden domes, the colours and 500,000 statues of Buddha of all sizes and everywhere impress. 3000 kyat for the entrance is worth spending. And 15 km from Monywa is not far for a taxi... We were there during holidays and the crowd of locals was impressive. We spent roughly 2.5 hours going around the different structures around and the main temple building. Dress for the temple and be prepared that women are not allowed to enter some "men only" places like the tower... But you will meet nice and friendly people and have a chance to see and appreciate their ways of expressing their beliefs.

When my guide told me this is the most beautiful temple in whole Myanmar, I was first laughing. But when I saw the over 5.5 million Buddha statues I was flashed like never before. It is absolutely stunning, awesome, amazing... if you like buddhist temples this is the one (in Myanmar) I was really speechless and did not expect this. Did not want to leave at all.

When you think you are Buddha-ed out you arrive at this 'film set' of a pagoda - it almost looks like an exotic wedding cake! There are hundreds of thousands of Buddhas, each one perched in a niche. This Pagoda is pretty special but the Dali like designs continue into the next door nunnery and even into the hospital which was funded by the founder of Tiger Balm.

Hi, what's the cheapest method to visit the magnificent temple? How much it would cost? I'm a solo traveler.

Hello -
I'm a solo traveller too. The hotel arranged a taxi for me to visit the temple and standing Buddha for 30000kyat. I know a private taxi is not the ideal solution for a solo traveller but I didn't find out how to visit both places otherwise and the price was not too bad compared to what you get charged in Bagan to go to Mt Popa for example.
