Big surf the day we were there. The huge lava rocks just offshore created a very dramatic display. Nice place to stop and relax for a little while.

We met some folks on the plane who said they would be surfing here, so we expected it to be a lively community with lots of surfers enjoying themselves that we could take photos of. The sea was so rough and the waves were breaking...More

We stumbled on this area when we took a wrong turn. It is breathtaking! We spent an hour wandering around the beach and rock formations. Truly unique and beautiful!

A black sand beach but with the added interest of dark pillars thrusting out of the blue straight through the horizon line. The majesty of listening to the waves pound and spray into the remains of this historic landscape is worth more than a moment's...More

Love to see cliffs like this - they make the area a history. Seen these in many islands I've been around since most of them are of vulcanic activities. They are always facinating and the sad story is they will be gone in the future...More

Nice black beach with scenic cliffs. Might be good for surfing. We didn't go into the water because it was to cold and windy.

No sand, but terrific clear waters. Walking over the volcanic landscape is challenging, but also very interesting with the many small pools of water. Stunning scenery of ocean and cliffside. Nearby hot spring/pool, but didn't interest us. Lots of parking after navigating the winding road.
