My husband & I visited a few days ago in early October while in the area. We took the train from Koblenz to Braubach (make sure you have euros to buy a ticket on the way back-our cards would not work on the train terminal)....More
As part of a Scenic River cruise, we visited Marksburg Castle for a guided tour and Medieval dinner. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of this castle and made it very interesting. Much of the castle is in its original condition, you...More
Visiting this castle is an extraordinary experience - one of the highlights of our trip down the Rhine.
Be prepared for a steep walk before reaching the castle and some difficult terrain inside but with a good guide the visit is very worthwhile.
The castle is not super huge, but very interesting. We took a tour which explained the castle and what went on at the time. Cannons are on display to show how the castle was defended in addition to the position of the castle (steep slopes)....More

Marksburg Castle is worth the visit. It is beautiful from the Rhine River and provides spectacular views from the outer walls. The metal working and weapons rooms were very interesting. It is a small castle, so rooms are under-sized when compared to many other castles...More

It’s not really an easy place for those who are unsteady on their feet as the inclines in the castle are uneven and there are lots of cobbles. The steps up from the car park are pretty steep and hard for the unfit although there are railings and you can take your time. Coming down is ok but the steps descend through trees and woodland so can get slippery.
