We were conducted there by local friends, otherwise would, regrettably, have missed this gem. Amazing authentic, which makes the castle VERY unique in the region. Audio tour adequate, but wait, if necessary, for the English tour (50 minutes), and the experience will be even better....More

The car park at Marksburg Castle leaves you a short but steep walk to the castle itself, alternatively you can take the steps for a more direct route. You enter via the riders stairway which is difficult underfoot as it is carved from the rock...More

We toured the Marksburg Castle as an excursion from a Viking River Cruise - it was educational and interesting. Highly recommend a visit if you're in the area!

Because we were visiting in November, Marksburg was one of the few castles open for tours. It is the only castle on the Rhine that was never destroyed and rebuilt. The tour was well-organized and interesting. We had an excellent lunch at the restaurant. The...More

This is another great castle in Germany! The little town at the base is really cute and very "old Europe". The castle itself is really nice as it sits on a hill with views of the vally below. You can see another castle from this...More

Put your comfy shoes on as you will be walking on uneven surfaces, lots of steps and narrow steps and walls in some areas. You also have a pretty long way to walk to even get to the castle. If you’re unsteady, I would NOT...More

As magnificent as this castle looks, I was hoping for more from the tour. It was interesting as far as it went, but felt a little contrived, touristy, and covered a small fraction of the structure. Perhaps the rest just isn't suitable or safe for...More

Marksburg Castle is an old castle built in the Middle Ages. It survives well after the wars and worth paying a visit there. Payment of entrance fee is necessary but the view from there over the valley are beautiful. There is a gift shop and...More

This was a trip highlight! I don’t like heights, but it was really interesting! The tour throughout gives. Great perspective how people lived. The kitchen and bedrooms were unreal. Put on your walking shoes and be ready for a hike up!

This old castle is spectacular! Be ready for walking, uneven cobblestones, and lots of history! Really gives you an idea of life in the Middle Ages. I could have stayed there all day long. This place survived the wars and is still going strong. Remarkable!

Take Highway 3 south out of Cologne. Then 48 to 42. Will take about an hour and a half. You might want to check their website for their opening times.

It’s not really an easy place for those who are unsteady on their feet as the inclines in the castle are uneven and there are lots of cobbles. The steps up from the car park are pretty steep and hard for the unfit although... More
