Beautiful tiny nudist beach! It is now possible to access it by foot. I DO NOT recommend it in high summer (June-August) especially on weekends when the beach is full, so it is impossible to enjoy it there. BE CAREFUL of high tides and, for safety, try to stay away from the cliffs. Bring food/drinks, but PLEASE collect and take out your trash. There are always some gay couples or solo gays and foreign tourists there. Best months to visit there: May and October.

Its almost as though this is a secret beach, but clearly others have caught on where it is hidden. Saying that, the tiny beach was busy but that means about 30 people were there enjoying the idyllic setting.
An absolutely beautiful beach that involves an element of rock climbing to get to. It’s a manageable scramble down the cliff to get there, but if you struggle with heights or have any mobility issues, it’s best to stay away.
If you get there, enjoy the quiet and views of the cliffs surrounding you and keeping you protected from the outside world.

Amazing little beach. Yes it is a bit of a walk along the track to get to it but it is stunning. Plenty of nude and gay men bathing so you can relax and enjoy the water. While it is a sheltered bay, there is a current and a shelf that drops suddenly Into much deeper water.

Honestly I was scared going as the directions were very vague and I was not sure how I was going to find it. When I did find it I was soooo happy that I made the attempt as it was one of the most unspoiled beaches I have ever been on.
Step 1: Look up tide times as you can only access this beach in low tide and if you stay too long you will be trapped here so go when the tide is going out and stay only when it is half way in. you can do this by googling Tide times Portimao
Step 2: you will need to Drive and Park in the field outlined in the map attached
Step 3: walk to the end of the road towards Casa da Guarda; make a right and walk around the two Gruta's (holes in the rocks looking down onto the beaches); keep following the path to the right and the path will lead you down onto the beach. It seems confusing so I have done a map using google satellite and put arrows. There are some pictures attached as well.
The beach and surrounding landscape is spectacular and I would say that if you visit here you may even skip out on the Benagil caves as these are just as good. You can wear water shoes and do the walk to the end of the line to see other small amazing beaches which are awesome. This is a clothing optional beach but there were a couple of people with clothes on so never fear.
Pack a picnic and enjoy your time as it is amazing!

A must see when at the beach in Alvor. We strolled along the boardwalk and down on to the beach and saw this in the distance so had an adventure to find it. There is a cave you can walk through to get out or walk along the beach. Stunning views and a must see.

Praia Do Submarino is a small secluded beach on the pretty stretch of coast from Vau to Alvor where there are a number of similar beaches. They take a bit of scrambling to reach from the high cliffs so you might find you have the beach to yourself. Named after the shape of one of the rocks nearby which looks like a submarine.

Just past the east end of the Alvor beachwalk you enter a magical beach and cliff formation. Some parts are only accessible at lowish tide(if you don't want to get your feet wet) but this is a don't miss if in Alvor.

This is quite the walk from the center of Alvor along the boardwalk. It is a very scenic, peaceful place and well worth the walk out at least once to see the sights.

Many might just sit on the nice beach and not bother to walk up the caves and coves of Praia Do Submarino.
Best way to get there is head to the beach, then follow the boardwalk which takes you most of the way there. If your up near the harbour at Alvor, head left. Its a lovely walk.
As you near this part, you see a few caves at the low tide. You can walk through these and discover the little hidden beaches and coves along the way.
The beach itself is nice, but head to this part and it becomes magnificent with breathtaking vistas. Its almost a magical kind of place that will have everyone back home wishing they really were there!
To save some money, buy an air bed and umbrella, it will cost about 10 euro for a couple to use the various sunbed areas that all the beach restaurants and cafes have. If your a beach baby its worth buying your own stuff.
Eats can be expensive down the beach, if there are a few of you, then its worth taking a packed lunch and some drinks.
Just don't get stuck when the tide comes in. Plenty of people about so when they start to head off the tide is coming in.
One of the most picturesque places in Alvor. Whatever else you do, make sure you set aside some time to visit.
