Been going to Alvor since 2003, the beach is beautiful with lifeguards, plenty of restaurants & some kiosks selling snacks and ice lollies. 2 sun loungers, tables and shade €15 per day at the concession in front of Cinco Quinas restaurant and the Windsurf restaurant. Be aware toilets and restaurants there only open from midday, a change from previous years when they opened from morning and you could get breakfast, also they no longer do food to takeaway only crisps, nuts etc.
Beach is a beautiful stretch of golden soft sand approx 3k long with lifeguard stations and water sports available and is popular with windsurfers. Lovely to walk the beach from end to end or wander back up to town via the boardwalk.
Sea is at it’s warmest in September.

The small town of Alvor is lucky to call two very different beaches its own. Praia de Alvor is the vast main beach, some 2 miles (3.2km) long and particularly amazing when the tide is out. Then there is the magical Praia dos Tres Irmaos at its eastern end, which probably measures around 680 feet (200 metres) long when the tide is out.
Praia de Alvor is easily accessed from many different points between the small town of Alvor with its amazing Boardwalk and the privately owned holiday village Prainha.
As you can imagine, there is a large number of restaurants and bars located all along the beach. Opening hours vary with the seasons. There are also sun loungers and parasols for hire as well as boats, you can go windsurfing, kitesurfing or whatever you’re having yourself. Some hotels benefit from direct access to the beach, others offer their guests a free, hourly shuttle service. Obviously, there are car parks.
I stayed in Alvor for nine nights in mid-April and although the weather was scorching, this huge beach was nearly deserted and very clean despite it apparently being open to dog walkers. I would image that in high season or on summer weekends, beach and restaurants are incredibly busy.
One word of warning: Remember you’re on the Atlantic and waves can be huge, particularly when there’s a landward wind.

Very long and vast beach, the sea was calm. Well equipped with deckchairs and parasols (fee payable). Ample parking nearby, a plank path provides easy access to the beach.

The water is clean and has a transparent colour. However, the water of the Atlantic Ocean can be very cold in this area. Even so, it can be refreshing to swim here on a hot summer day. Beware that the current on this beach can be strong. Be careful in the water when you are visiting with small children. Also watch out on the eastern end of the beach, since there are some big rocks in the water. It is best to avoid swimming near the rocks. There are no rocks in the water on the western side and in the middle section. The beach can be crowded, especially during the summer months. However, there is always enough space for everyone. Also, the people are not evenly distributed on the beach. The beach has both crowded and quiet areas. The most crowded part is the middle section. The more east or west you go from there, the less crowded it will get. If you prefer to have more privacy on the beach, avoid the middle section. The beach attracts all kinds of visitors, including families with children. The sandy beach is quite popular with kids to build sandcastles and to play in the sand.

It was amazing. A train took us there from Pestana blue alvor for free or there was a quick five minute walk over the road on a bridge from our hotel. There was two restaurants and a smaller Pestana hotel on the beach. A little bar and a nice walk down and along the beach. Very nice beach I loved it!

Portimão is a lovely place that was "ruined by wild construction". Nevertheless, Praia da Rocha and Praia do Alvor, are among the best beaches you can find on Algarve, specially during August, since are the most spacious beaches you can find (in August, if you go by car, you have to go before, the latest, 9h30 am...if not, leave your car home..)

Fantastic sandy beach well serviced by sunbed vendors and some restaurants. It's best for bathing at the rocky end in the east and at the breakwater in the west. The water is often rough though, but there are plenty of lifeguards and flags to assist the bather. Boardwalks provide easy access to the beach. A great place to spend the day.

This looks like an ordinary cafe you could easily pass by, but don't. Their delicious treats are baked fresh every day. I have been here very often. Run by a Portugese family, the menu goes from scrambles egg with toast, huge full English breakfast, to delicious full meal salads, almost too much to eat. Large enclosed patio, very reasonable prices on everything including draught beer!

Hi , are there any surf beaches at Alvor? Many thanks
Written March 17, 2019
I would say minimal surf. Take the time to travel to Praia do Amado and Praia Da Bordeira which is on the west coast about 45 minutes from Portimao. The area offers you great scenery, lookouts and surf in both beaches. Have fun.

Are there rock formations to see at this beach? Thank you in advance.
Written November 15, 2018
Hi there. Sorry for the delayed reply. No rock formations at this beach and that's probably the main reason I like it. All the beaches with rock formations mean lots of steps up and down the cliffs
