A wonderful tour of Gaudí's folly with Andrea, who knows her stuff.
We had not heard of el capricho de Gaudí before coming to Cantabria, and we organised the visit at the last minute. But it was very worthwhile, both for the building itself and for the informative, discerning and witty explanation offered us by our guide, Andrea. Well worth the entrance fee. An enchanted place.

    Simply spectacular.
This building doesn't leave you cold. Even if you may not like the building aesthetically, you can only be impressed with the vision of the architect and the skills of the workers. Artisans of the day. And at the same time, one has to applaud the courage of the owner, to give this project to the young Gaudi.

A great tour brought this gorgeous house to life
What a gorgeous building with so many quirky and ingenious bits to look at. We had a tour in English with Lucia, who was brilliant, and kept us engaged throughout. There’s such an interesting story to the house and she told it really well. Definitely pay a visit if you have time.

    Beautiful Gaudi building
We were lucky to have an excellent guide in English. She was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. This is a fascinating place and well worth seeing. We could only see 2 English tours so make sure you get there early to book one of them This is a popular place to visit. The tour guide made it even better.

One of the most amazing places I have visited. Absolutely loved the exterior. Definitely recommend booking a guide otherwise you miss out on some important details about the house which you would otherwise be unaware of when looking round; it would appear to be just an empty house. Mario was our guide which was in English and who was very interesting and knowledgable . Very good value. If in busy periods make sure you book for the English speaking guide as I think that are limited slots during the day.

This villa in Comillas is another inspired creation of Antoni Gaudí. Every element of this building, both inside and out, epitomises everything that is imaginative about Catalan Modernisme. The only difference being that this house has some Neo-Mudejar influences, which is not a bad thing. The interiors are largely devoid of furnishing, which is a shame, but most of the rooms do have at least one piece associated with the former resident. Some of the furnishings in the house are also designed with the signature Gaudi cursive forms. The most impressive part of the interior is actually the upper floor centred around a greenhouse.

The exterior decorations have the signature Gaudi fairytale colour scheme, nature inspired forms, bright tiles, and cursive balustrades. If you love the works of Gaudi or Catalan Modernism, then El Capricho de Gaudí is something that should be on the list of things to visit.

The entrance ticket comes with an audio guide and does a great job of explaining the rooms and building.

I highly recommend the guided visit with Paula, a very young, enthusiastic and knowledgeable woman. She explained all the intricate symbols and the geniality of Antonio Gaudi. The Capricho is the best thing in Comillas. The only problem is that it is privately owned. It should be part of the Cantabria Government!

A short trip from Santillana del Mar and worth it for a Gaudi fan. Ordered the tickets on line. Did not use the audioguide and still appreciated the visit of 45+ minutes. Parking very challenging for non-Europeans; there is a steep hill with a small lo. Sunflower ceramics covered building. Gaudi-unique innovation touches throughout. We visited on a Thursday and there were quite a few touring the home. The garden room is lovely when you are in it, but I found the white color a non-Gaudi design.

Having lived in Cataluña for 15 years I thought I’d seen all Gaudí had designed. I wasn’t aware he was responsible for much outside of the region but this place is lovely. The number of people seemed to be limited which made our experience all the nicer. We spent a couple of hours here appreciating the architecture. Can advise booking ahead on line and arrive in plenty of time to park. We had a 10.45am entrance and had to park a 15 min walk away. By the time we returned, that car park was also full.

Amazing jewel. Designed by Gaudi, built in 1883-85 in Comillas. Built as a summer house and stands today with its original / restored wood in this beautiful little palace. It has a greenhouse inside the house which is lovely. Worth visiting. Seven euros per person.

An easy and obvious stop as we left Bilbao and made our way west along the coast. After Gaudi in Barcelona, this is just a little icing on the cake, but it is fun to see this lovely organization of space and decor. How sad the man who had it built did not get to enjoy it. How lucky for us it was preserved.

This is one of the most amazing and important architectural buildings in the country. It is totally eye-catching and stunning. Give yourself plenty of time to explore the gardens outside as well as the inside. Start on the ground floor and make sure you see the movies and it will help you better understand the amazing and importance of this work
