Step back 200 years in time at Lang Pioneer Village Museum! Lang Pioneer Village Museum is located just 10 minutes east of Peterborough on the shores of the Indian River. Established in 1967, the Museum features over 25 restored and recreated buildings. Costumed interpreters roam the picturesque village demonstrating the life and trades of a settler in the 1800's. The Village is complete with lanes and pathways, farm animals, vegetable and herb gardens and other authentic details of a 19th-century hamlet. The Museum is open seven days a week from Father's Day to Labour Day. Come enjoy the pleasures of a time gone by today!

We visited the village for the annual Christmas by Candlelight. There was a Nativity play with actors, livestock (sheep, donkey, etc) and the choir from Keene United Church. The buildings were all open with interpreters and there were guest performers in various places (in the church, at a bonfire). A horsedrawn wagon with bells offered rides around the village. The... I have been to Lang Pioneer Village several times, It's a really good family outing. There is quite a bit to see and do. The staff and volunteers are very welcoming. The prices are reasonable and there is no pressure to constantly buy things. The area is beautiful. There is a fair amount of walking to see the whole village,... More

I went to Lang Pioneer village with my 8 yr old and 5 yr old, and we all enjoyed it. The highlight for my kids was getting a scavenger hunt list when we entered. It had about 20 items on it that were spread around the village. The people who worked at the village were friendly and would happily tell... More

We arrived late! We only had 40 mins to see everything. We didn't have to pay which I thought was very nice as we drove over 40 mins to get there, we thought they were open later. We managed to do the entire place but was very fast at doing so. I wish I could have taken more time. We... More

This is definitely a must see for all families interested with the past. Love the staff given you lots of information on the building or contents of it. Definitely learned some new things I never knew before. Worth the trip. $20 cash for a family (2 adults, up to 4 youths) very cheap.

I was extremely pleased with this site. The place is so peaceful and well kept. There are many buildings to see and the staff are extremely friendly ad knowledgeable! They all go on a lunch break from 12-1230 so its a great time to explore buildings with no interpreters or visit animals ect. The animals are kept in nice sized... More

What a great way for children and adults to learn about the Canadian pioneers and experience some of the hardships and pleasures of that life. So well laid out and with wonderful costumed and " in role" guides. The use of young volunteers is to be applauded - they are great. Only down side is the catering which is totally... More

The setting contains some interesting buildings -- a hotel, a school, several barns full of interesting equipment, log cabins -- one of them belonging to the family of David Fife, originator of "Fife Wheat". The highlights for our group, which included 3 young children, was the print shop where they could use the printing press and the weaving shop where... More
