Exceptional coffee tour. More than just coffee.
Exceptional coffee tour. Utterly fascinating. Our engaging guide was hugely knowledgeable in all aspects of coffee farming, across Costa Rica and the world. He was also hilarious and kind. The coffee bushes are on a working farm so you are also privilege to a huge array of fruit and veg growing and able feed goats and collect eggs. The coffee tasting session afterwards was clear, informative, unbiased and with no snobbery. I did not want to leave.

    Great and informative tour!
Wonderful tour and coffee tasting! Enjoyed the tour of the beautiful farm and our guide's knowledge and passion about coffee and the environment. I would 100% recommend. We did not have children in our group but there were children on our tour. Guide did an excellent job of trying to make it relevant to the children. Very informative and the coffee is delicious! I would gladly visit again!

Wonderful immersion into coffee from seed to cup
Definitely a highlight of my vacation to Costa Rica. I absolutely loved to discover the inspiring work of Cafe Monteverde. My partner and I were very fortunate to learn so much about how coffee is grown, harvested and processed, sustainability in this industry, community empowerment and environmental awareness. We loved to finish the tour with a tasting workshop of the different roasts of coffee. Our guide Jorge was amazingly knowledgeable, kind and so charming. I feel way more mindful now about coffee now. Loved everything about our afternoon in Cafe Monteverde! Thanks for this unforgettable experience.

    Learned a lot about coffee
We were impressed by the care that the growers take for their coffee plants and the environment to ensure the sustainability of their farm. Half of their land is left as forest in and around the rows of coffee plants. The leaves and soil from the forest are added to the compost that eventually is used as mulch and provides a liquid used as a fertilizer. Orange trees dot the area because they bloom at the same time as the coffee and attract pollinators. We learned about different treatments of the beans before roasting (washed, natural and "honey" processes). Our tour guide was one of the owners and you could tell how passionate he is about coffee and the environment. You can buy their coffee online and have it shipped anywhere in the world!

    Fun, tasty, and educational trip
We spent a fun and educational morning with Sergio, who was knowledgeable about coffee growing but also about the ecology and social enterprises linked to the coffee industry. It was a fascinating day where we picked coffee beans, toured the farm, saw the drying and roasting processes, and finished with a delicious coffee tasting. For a very small additional price they dropped us off and picked us up from our hotel, which I would recommend doing. I can’t wait to share the coffee I bought with family when I return home. Highly recommend cafe Monteverde for a coffee tour in the area.

    Great Tour!
We had a great tour of the farm while learning so much about the coffee growing and roasting process! It has increased my appreciation for coffee tremendously! We also really enjoyed tasting all of the different kinds of coffee in the context of understanding the different drying and roasting methods. We would definitely recommend.

    Amazing tour!
My friend and I had an amazing tour given by Hiro. He walked us through the process of coffee from the soil to picking the beans. At the end we got to try many different types of delicious coffee. Cafe Monteverde promotes sustainable practices. It was great to learn about and I would recommend the tour to anyone!

Great coffee tour and supports local businesses
Great morning on the coffee tour. We had a 1 hour walk around the coffee plantation and got to pick our own coffee beans. Then we were shown how the fruits are dried and turned into coffee beans, and after that we saw the roasting process. We tried 6 different coffees (light, medium, dark, natural etc). I would really recommend the tour. We got picked up from our hotel in Santa Elena.

    Great coffee education
Went here as part of a Gate 1 tour group. They served us a delicious lunch followed by a farm tour. We learned so much about the coffee growing and processing, and had a fun coffee tasting at the end. Very enjoyable and our guide was so knowledgeable. Great opportunity to support a local business and learn more about Costa Rica's coffee production.

We kicked out and we able to book a last minute tour that included my husband and I and our 3 young children. Norman was wonderful, let the kids be kids. Explored the beautiful grounds and coffee plants, saw the farm animals and learned about other vegetation on property as well
As the process of coffee growing and roasting. Finished the tour with tasting and chocolate. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Where do I begin…
this was the most amazing experience i’ve ever had.
We had the not only the opportunity but the privilege of doing our tour with Norman!
If you’re interested in a fun, quirky and silly time please request him!
My partner and I felt so comfortable during this tour and learned a tremendous amount about coffee, plants, birds and any tidbit of information Normal so happened to know due to his experience!
We became besties and got to travel, learn and joke while in a beautiful location!
The tour last around 2 hours with the last 20-30 minutes being coffee tasting, which Norman ensured would be even more delightful than just taste with a guessing game and final quiz for fun.
We also had the lunch before the tour which was amazing!!!! super filling and delicious, worth the $12.
If you have a couple hours to spare, enjoy coffee, good company, furry friends, home cooked meals and laughs, then definitely book your tour!

Would highly recommend this tour! Right away, we knew this place was for us. Such a welcoming vibe when we arrived. The met Jose, one of the founding members and had wonderful conversation with him before our official tour started.
Our tour guide was Sergio, and wow was he passionate about his job. He was full of so much information and made us really think about circle of life and how everything is connected and affected. I am so glad he was our coffee guide because his passion was infectious. We left very happy and of course full of delicious coffee.

I did not expect to feel so many emotions on a tour of a coffee plantation, but Sergio made an incredibly compelling case for conservation and sustainability. He was incredibly knowledgeable not only about the process of how coffee is made, all the way from bean, to seedling, to cup, but also about the wider ecological aspects of responsible farming and working with nature rather than against it. I loved getting to taste the different types of coffee after learning so much about the process, and it made me truly appreciate coffee all the more. After bringing some of the coffee from Cafe Monteverde home, I don't think I'll ever be able to drink any other coffee!
Thank you, Sergio and the rest of the staff, for an inspiring tour and an absolutely wonderful experience!

My husband and I toured Cafe Monteverde Coffee Farm at the end of April. The farm itself is beautiful and so well maintained. Before the tour we had a delicious lunch. Our guide, Jessica, was so informative. She did a great job explaining and answering questions. We learned so much about coffee. I really respect the practices, intentions, and overall ethos of this farm. It is a lovely representation of the culture of the Monteverde community. Of course the coffee is delicious!

We went on a morning tour. It was a really good experience. The guide knew a lot about the farm, production and coffee. He was good in involving the group in an informal way.
The coffee tasting at the end was also really good.
We had arranged transport to/from the farm and it worked perfectly.
Would definitely recommend this tour.

This is an exceptional place to see. This coffee plantation is the real thing, started by local family farmers, innovative in protecting the land as well as improving the product, and a place where international students come to learn soil-preserving farming practices. (We had gone to a different tour a week before in La Fortuna, and we were not impressed there. That other one was like a big flashy tourist gift shop and tasting center surrounded by a garden demonstrating a few coffee and cacao trees.) That experience in Fortuna had left us feel like we had not seen a real working farm, so we booked a tour with Cafe Monteverde, and were not disappointed. Just outside of Santa Elena we found this real farm with real history, good coffee to taste -- and still a pleasant little local shop on site for some roast beans and fun gifts to take home, and a nice version of Costa Rican lunch available, too. Cafe Monteverde means Monteverde coffee, and this visit was one of the highlights for us.

Big Surprise was the wonderful "fixed plate" lunch. Excellent from start to finish. Passion is the word the describe tour guides when they discuss coffee. Nice gift shop with decent prices. You all enjoyed the coffee tasting. Well worth the visit.
