The Monteverde Orchid Garden is a place where you can enjoy beauty that is found in the marvelous world of orchids. Our garden has a large collection of orchids; we have more than 425 different species. You can find species that are endemic to Monteverde, and a collection of miniature orchids, including the smallest one in the world. We offer guided walks both in English and Spanish. We are in a great location in down town Santa Elena.

The emphasis for this geographically-small facility, but big in representatives of orchids is miniature orchids. Before you start the approximately one hour guided tour, everyone is given a magnifying glass. They have over 400+ species of orchids as well as other flowering plants and shrubs. When we visited over 120 were in bloom. But don't go expecting big showy prom-corsage... More

We had a few hours spare in Monteverde and I've been interested in orchids for years so it was an easy choice for me to come and visit here, It was totally worth the entrance fee. We were introduced to the gardens by a young chap who didn't look old enough to know that much about orchids. However, as he... More

Very informative tour of the gardens. We didn't know anything about orchids and thus learned so much. The staff are very passionate about orchids. We have since been spotting orchids in the wild thanks to the knowledge we gained from our visit.

We hadn't even thought about visiting the orchid garden until one of our guides suggested it was a valuable experience. It is small and is maintained by a family. Our guide seemed to be a young college student. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about the orchids, teaching us many interesting facts. Very much worth the $10.00 fee!

I am amazed at how many types of orchids there are, and how much they differ in size and look. This garden includes some other beautiful plants and more types of orchids than I have ever seen. We enjoyed our tour very much and the guide was very informative. He pointed out several distinct details of the orchids and showed... More

The first and second visit to the Orchid garden was in July of 2013 and there were a lot of plants blooming. It was really beautiful. The third visit in 2016 didn't have as many blooming plants as we saw in 2013, yet the guides were still able to make the visit very informative and interesting. This is a really... More

I toured with an Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) group which was offered as an optional tour on their multi day tour of Costa Rica. There was a fee to get in; however, I do not know what it was. Apparently a Costa Rican "orchid enthusiast" has a passion for orchids and developed/built this place. He raises orchids and I believe... More

I have never been a flower show or flower tour type of person. The Orchid garden tour made me rethink orchids. The wide variety of orchids along with the numbers of them in the Monteverde area is astonishing. The tour also alerted me to the importance of paying attention to the little details of plants and trees where orchids grow.... More

This is an interesting place to learn about the orchids of this part of Costa Rica. We were unable to complete our visit one day and they let us come back the next day to complete the tour. We had two different guides and they were both very knowledgeable about orchids. We grow orchids ourselves so we found it very... More
