I was 1 of only 2 people looking around, and enjoyed it very much. I learnt a lot, and saw a lot of native orchids that I had heard about. They also have a few interesting insects and things knocking around.
I have only known the kinds of orchids that you see in grocery stores. I never knew those were hybrids bred to live longer and not natural orchids at all. I also had no idea that there were so many hundreds of kinds of orchids...More
My husband and I were mooching around Monteverde town when we came across the Orchid Gardens. Initially we were just going to have a wander round ourselves when the guy at reception said a tour would be starting shortly (included in the entry fee).
The garden is very beautiful and it has a lovely atmosphere, it's very central so if you have time after visiting other attractions or are having a relaxing day then this is a nice way to fill your time. It's $12 for a guided tour...More

To answer your questions, there is no specific time for orchids because year round we always have different species in bloom so at any time of the year you come, you will be able to see unique species. We have an average of 100 different species in bloom per day.
We emphasize on native species from Monteverde and Costa Rica, all natural species even some endemic to the Monteverde region. So you will definitely get an understanding of Costa Rican orchids.
