We spent the day exploring all of the old buildings and walking the trails in the park. We had lunch at the restaurant in the market square and the staff was very friendly. They spoke a little English but all of the exhibits and menus are in German. Overall a fun day.

The buildings that have been moved and rebuilt are amazing. There are people dressed in period costumes demonstrating the jobs and tasks of the times. Ex: black blacksmithing, weaving, ceramics, farming. There are 2 restaurants so it is easy to spend the day. Plenty of farm animals for the kids to enjoy.

One of the things at which Germany excels is the 'open-air museum' concept and Hessenpark is one of the best I have visitied. The museum has a very extensive collection of old buildings from the area which have been re-erected on-site. Although the signs inside the buildings are exclusivey in German, there is a panel with information in English outside... More

We went on a Saturday in early Sept 2015 and the whole place was bustling! The mini museums as well as the presence of various vendors made for a really interesting day trip. While the articles in the museum are mostly in German, the ladies and gentleman manning each museum speak fluent english and are more than happy to share... More

All signs were in German, no assistance for non / speakers of little German. This made the displays less interesting. The food options are limited, the playground small. The windmills were nice though. Wont be returning.

My First Visit to an Open Air Museum was simply worth the Time. Its Huge and requires lot of time and interest in knowing how the ancient people lived before the war. it will typically show case the German Culture, Half Timbered Building from the Lands of Hesse. Houses from outside seems to be quite small but when you peep... More

The place is huge, requires real dedication to see the whole place but whatever you can see is worthwhile. Some of the buildings show the living conditions, others house exhibits on a theme such as photography, telephones, photos of the women farmers of the area. Many of the exhibits and all the buildings have English translations. We were there on... More
