We opted to stay near a bar called Akti (see separate review) and paid €8 per day. Ocean is shallow and child friendly (although supervision is still highly recommended). If the wind picks up it can get wavey so be mindful with little ones.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 25, 2024

- Roger L6 contributionsalone in creteAs a first time solo traveller to Crete I was not sure how it would pan out. All the bars and eateries made me very welcome, my last time in Stalis was over twenty years ago and it has really changed, much more modern, super restaurants, most overlooking the sea. This resort has everything for all types of holiday makers.Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten September 22, 2024

Honestly I am not delighted not only with the beach, but also with Crete. I imagined a more comfortable holiday, at least like in Chalkidiki, where we were taken by transfer to the beach club, here we had to walk almost 2 kilometers to the beach and, accordingly, the same distance back, only because there was an unequipped rocky beach closer to the hotel. This 5 km long beach was completely sandy and equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas, but that was where its advantages ended. If in Halkidiki it was enough for us to buy 2 drinks and for the same money we were provided with all types of sunbeds for every taste and an umbrella, then here we pay separately for sunbeds, and drinks separately. We “landed” on the first section of the beach we came across, but I don’t think it would have been better anywhere, maybe the equipment would have looked a little more attractive, but it would have also cost more.
The first drawback of the beach is the huge waves. I had the impression that we were somewhere in Tenerife, on the ocean, the sea was so restless every day, only one day out of all there was a calm sea, when I took the photo, all the other days the wave washed over from head to toe, swimming you can’t name it, it’s dangerous that you can choke on sea waterand not really take a dip or swim, a constant struggle with the waves.
The second drawback was the constant wind, which blew away the beach towels, which had to be weighed down with stones so that they did not fly away. Those who spent more time here bought special huge clothespins for towels.
The third and very important drawback is that on the beach there is no semblance of a shower or a device to wash your feet from the sand, which usually belongs to the normal European service.
In addition, the sun was burning, everyone was “sunbathing”, mostly under umbrellas, fortunately they were made of translucent mesh, I almost didn’t get tanned. The composition of sea water also leaves much to be desired; the water with these “breaking” waves is so saturated with minerals that it is not easy for an allergy sufferer to tolerate it.
The positive aspects include the fact that the owner of our section of the beach, a rather kind person, took good care of the equipment, everything worked, he also removed the garbage with a special device, it was clean and, if desired, you could order food and drink, some of People which lay under the whole day with umbrellas, they ordered food , he brought it, put the food on the table under the umbrella, the food looked nice. I tried to get Frappe coffee from him, like in Halkidiki, he brought it, I didn’t like it, the cup was small, not a glass for Long Drinks, like in Halkidiki, and no one gives you a bottle of water, like there.
My conclusion is this: despite the obvious efforts on the part of the owner of the beach, I would hardly come back again; for me, such a vacation is a too extreme.

During our trip along the north coast of the island we saw many beaches and most of them were pebbles.
Not this one. It is a lovely traditional soft sand Beach and has a lot going for it. We spent some long days down there and really enjoyed ourselves.
Son loungers with a parasol are available for rent at €5 for a complete set with table. These are usually attached to a restaurantAnd they allow you to use their facilities while also offering beach service.
There are lots of shops nearby should you need any provisions and it is only metres from the town Main Street. The sea is quite calm and it seems safe for swimming.

The sandy beach is about 2 km long, with multiple bars offering sunbeds - either for a fee or in exchange for consumption of drinks/food. There are a couple of lifeguard posts, as well as activity centers offering parasailing, water jets, banana/couch rides, etc. There's a patch of endemic Cretan palms in the eastern part of the beach.

I was nothing short of amazed by this beach I stumbled across whilst staying in the nearby beach of Hersonissos. After our first night in Hersonissos I noticed the beaches were quite rocky and not very big at all. After a quick google search of local beaches I found this and it didn’t disappoint. Golden sand, perfect clear water for as far as you could see and many activities for children and adults to do if they so wish. €3.50 a sunbed with an umbrella all day was a lot cheaper than I anticipated and the nearby bakeries and shops made it a cheap day all in all by the time we’d got food and drinks for the day. A taxi rank was right near the beach aswell so made commuting back to our hotel easy aswell. Would definitely come back here and am planning to do so in the future.

Very busy beach with every restaurant or hotel having their pitch of sunbeds and umbrellas. Prices for these range from 8 euros to 15 for 2 sunbeds. Lots of people and families that won’t pay for the sunbeds so just lay their towels wherever they wish sometimes right in the space you’ve just paid euros for. Stalis itself is very commercial with lots of bars and restaurants maybe to many. Plus every 3 or 4 business is a car or quad bike hire place. Roads very busy with young people riding motor bikes and quad bikes so watch your back !!!! The old town is a totally different area with better restaurants and bars with lots of atmosphere and places for a romantic meal or drink. All in all my wife and myself enjoyed our stay just a few things took the shine off it being an ideal holiday destination.

Its a great beach, very long and good to walk at the edge of the sea.
Plenty of sunbeds and shades, vary in price most are around 8 euros for 2 beds and a shade, some are free at the end towards Malia.
The sea can be a bit rough when it's windy, but fun to play in the waves - beware of the lifeguard flags as the red goes up when the waves are strong.
Lovely and warm due to the shallow shore, you can walk out quite a way.
Some interesting rocks, but be careful, they're very sharp!
Good sand for the little ones, plenty of sand castle time.

Beautiful fine sandy beach, clear water no jellyfish or other algae in the water.
You can go very far into the water. Ideal for toddlers who learn to swim or play other games in the water.
There are various animation programs: Jetski, banana boat, boat tours and much more.
Evening city walks are also very nice.
It of course also delicious restaurants and bars that are very well attended.

Two sunbeds with umbrella and small table and free WiFi, showers and sunbed service for 8 € (2 pers.) It's a fair price. Last year on Malle we paid €16 WITHOUT service. Crete in general has a good value for money.

Stalis has several beached, seperated by small rocky outcrops. The town beaches are always busy, chairs and umbrellas at various prices, dependant on the bars/tavernas adjacent. Some gave free chairs if you used the bar/taverna. For me the best beach was towards Malia,in the Ikarus resort hotel. Chairs go first choice to residents, but you can get one if you want. I found a clear area at the end of the beach with no chairs and just laid on the sand. The water is clean and shallow on all the beaches here, but there can be a bit of undertow on the Eastern beach.

I would think quite a few places will still be open as this is quite a touristy resort and when we went, outside peak season, there was plenty of choice.

Hi, can anyone tell me where along Stalis beach is best for sun beds which aren’t all really close together? Would rather visit where people aren’t all on top of each other. Thanks 🙂

What’s the deal with the sun beds on the beach. Are there any that are just pay up front and how much ? Any recommendations and Thanks in advance
Written June 13, 2019
Most of the beach areas near to the hotels or promenades are "under the control" of beachside Tavernas, bars or Hotels so finding a decent place to lay on the beach free of charge is difficult. The sunbeds and sunbrellas can be hired for 3 to 7 euros per person per day. Theres no freebies even if you order food and drinks from the "controlling" bars, taverns or hotels. My tip travel to the outskirts of wherever your staying where the beaches are better bigger and you can find a lovely uncrowded spot free of "unjustified contollers" charges and unhygenic pests offering facial, back or foot massages that do more harm than good to your body parts. Arina beach between Hersonosis and Heraklion is a lovely beach, big, nice sand and great for kids. Otherwise just outside Malia, near the Palace Archeological site is a lovely big beach which is also Free to use and great for kids too. Basically if you've had the misfortune to book a holiday in Hersonosis, Stalis or Malia then the best plan is Hire a car for the duration of your stay to travel to better beaches and far more interesting places than you will find in these 3 places. HAVE A NICE HOLIDAY.

We didn't use a spa while we were there, but it's a fairly touristy spot, especially in high season. Most hotels in the area offer a spa and you can use them even if you're staying somewhere else. Also, I'd be surprised if there weren't spa services on offer in some of the local shops in the main town.

Can you hire wheel chairs in Stalis if needed also are the subways disabled friendly
Written February 4, 2019
Approach to the beach is fairly level and there are mats on the beach. Didn't see wheelchairs for hire, but did see some people on mobility scooters. Try looking online to see if any local hire outlets offer them?
