As regular visitors to Doonbeg GC our touring society has always rated it as a 'brand leader' in terms of reception and hospitality when compared with its more illustrious local rivals. This year being no exception thanks to the efforts of all concerned.

In the past Doonbeg's greens have come in for a degree of justified criticism. But no longer. They now compare most favourably with all, bar none, of the courses we visit.

Well done and thank you Doonbeg. We will be back.

We recently played this course during our trip through SW Ireland. I read some of the criticisms that its not a true links course or is an Americanized version. We played Lahinch and Waterville during our trip and I put this course up there with these two. As others have mentioned, this course is every bit as spectacular as these two but is more playable. The opening hole is gorgeous with a amphitheater green tucked into 40 foot dunes. Since this is a newer course, there were certain environmental restrictions placed on the course design and layout that other older courses weren't subject to. Lahinch is amazing but if you miss a fairway, you loose a ball. I absolutely loved our experience at Doonbeg and would go back in a minute. The course fee is the same as the others (Lahinch, Waterville, Ballybunion) but is a playable gem. Truthfully, I felt the holes not in the dunes were just a beautiful as the ones in the dunes. On these holes, you have amazing views of the Irish countryside. This course deserves more credit than it receives.

What a course definitely the best I've ever played. Spectacular condition with great golfing holes my own golf was poor but still I really enjoyed the experience of playing such a fabulous course.
Good play it and just enjoy it and don't be hard on yourself or the course will just eat you up

I have been to play Doonbeg three times over the past four years. It is hard to describe how much it has improved.
Today this is a really classy and challenging links course that requires every shot in the book from crunching drives to subtle chips. It was in superb condition from tee to green and the added bonus is spectacular views over the beach and ocean.
The other stand out feature is the staff who are universally great with true ‘can do’ attitudes. Thanks in particular to Kevin and Brian who lead fabulous teams.

Doonbeg is a fun day out if you like wide fairways and short , forgiving rough. It’s hard to lose a ball and easy to break your handicap if the wind behaves. However, a few revetted bunkers and nice coastal views don’t give it the credibility to rank anywhere near its neighbours - the true links classics of lahinch, ballybunion or Tralee. It’s a bit like Waterville in that it has maybe 6 creative holes and talks itself ( and price) up in an attempt to make American golfers think it must be a good course. Overall , the course is rather flat and bland and cannot be considered a true Irish links experience. Given the high price they charge, only play here on a rest day between the real courses.

Visited here for the golf. Lovely course, some of the holes on the back nine were not as expected, but overall a lovely track that is worth visiting. The food in the Clubhouse was very good, and the woman serving me was very attentive and full of information, They like Trump!!! Guessing all the jobs help :-) A nice spot well worth a visit.

We played Tralee, Waterville, Old Head, Ballybunion and Trump at Doonbeg on a great weeklong golf trip to Ireland. If you know golf, you know that all of these courses are first rate. Of all those wonderful courses, I felt that Doonbeg was the most playable. All five courses were scenic and memorable but I felt that some of the other courses were just trying to beat you up a little too much. At Doonbeg, I got the feeling that they wanted you to enjoy yourself. Believe me, there is plenty of trouble here and the course is not boring in any way. I just got the feeling here that if I executed a good shot got rewarded.

Very enjoyable course, and a good challenge from the back tees. Most of the back nine was a little "ordinary " but the rest of the course was very scenic. Clubhouse staff were most helpful and friendly. Didn't stay at the resort, but it looked great.

I have been organizing golf trips for about 25 years—and this place gets it. The course itself is superb—the best we played in Ireland in my opinion. The caddies, restaurant staff, and everyone we encountered went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Customer service is obviously an area of emphasis. We stayed in the Links Cottages and they were fantastic.
I had Bear as my caddy and I highly recommend him. If you need to, put your politics on hold for a day—otherwise you are missing out.
