Interesting history behind it, however, there is nothing much to do besides take a picture of it. The nearby area has a church which is also worth a look by this house on its own is not open to the public, so taking a picture...More

You can telll from the variants of the name, the history here is quite confusing. Facts seem to be that this was an Irish-born saint of the 6th century, who ended up losing his life in Germany, when a ruler's wife had him beheaded cuz...More

Charming house, top of the hill from the church. There's a key at a house close to the church and you can go in and visit the inside of this 9th century pile of stones. I didn't - but it doesn't cost anything if you...More

Such a beautiful charming little house, hidden away right in the heart of Kells, a short walk from the Monastic Site. St. Colmcilles house is tiny really and although there is not a lot to see, what there is is well worth it! The key...More

This unique building in Kells must be seen if visiting this historic heritage town. It's appearance from outside and the feeling you get when inside will remain with you for a long time.

It was great to see this place and so quaint that the key is held by relatives of the original owners. We loved seeing it and Lucy did a good job of explaining the story

The lady who holds the key to St. Columba’s house wasn’t home. There is no mortar in the house, it is stacked and angled stones, an amazing feat of early architecture. There was an underground passage from the house to the church. We were in...More

After walking up the hill to see it, we found a sign asking us to call into someones house for the key, by the time we reached the house (17th to the left) we were at the bottom of the hill and it was raining...More

The guide was very informative with much of the general knowledge and the interesting sidenotes. I enjoyed being able to go inside and see the interior. It's not something I would make a special effort to see, but if you are in the area or...More
