A great place to stroll around and this lovely Italian lakeside town. Lots of small streets etc with shopping in mind for the fashionable. You can sit on benches and watch the lake ferries come and go by. There are also a range of restaurants and ice cream shops to try. When its too hot to walk along the front you can go down the side streets which follow the route of the lakeside.

This palace is the seat of the municipality, it was the ancient palace of the Magnifica Patria dated back in 14th century but what we see today is a rebuilt palace after the terrible earthquake of 1901 that destroyed it

Salo was a gem for our trip because we were completely unfamiliar with the town but every street is filled with history and culture. The Palazzo is a brilliant example of well preserved architecture and the local's respect to their history.

Given its location with very little in the was of industry the buildings in Salo are all clean and well preserved looking. The waterfront area is pretty impressive and I was impressed by the memorial to the local men who died during the First World War.

The Palazzo with its beautiful loggias is magnificent; the views of the Lake are breathtaking...
What we really liked was browsing along the charming narrow streets with colorful houses on both sides... they are just a step away from the Palazzo... this is where you get a genuine feel of lovely Salo. Such a fascinating town...

The Palazzo della Podestà had been built in 1524 and then restored in the beginning of the 20th century after the earthquake.
Its impressive facade faces the vibrant main square of Salo. Elegant loggias with benches is a nice spot to hide from the sun, sit and relax enjoying the views of the lake while waiting for the boat.

Side by side and immediately to the South of the Podesta Palace.
Another magnificent old building in perfect condition.
The name relates to the ruler of Venice.

Now the Town Hall.
A beautiful old palace on the seaside.
It appears to be original with stone pillars and wooden beams cut by hand.

The most beautiful and important historic building in the city, with arches and frescoes underneath, now home to the town hall, worth seeing
