We visited the abbey, en route to Montalcino from Siena having consciously taken a longish detour through the Crete Senesi region. The parking is a fair distance away, so be prepared for quite abit of walking including some slopes, though it’s well worth the effort....More

Lovely place to stop while in this area of Tuscany. The frescoes are magnificent. Since it is a working monastery, one gets a feeling for monastic life. There is a cellar, with knowledgeable staff, to taste and purchase the wines and olive oils produced there.

This monastery is extremely well preserved and still active. The frescoes are worth at least an hour, full of moral tales of temptation. Library, pharmacy and refectory are beautiful. Finish with a quick meal at the Ristorante La Torre, the best feature being the deserts,...More

On arriving we heard magical gregorian chanting as the monks went about their daily business. The frescoes, particularly those by Il Sodomo, were amazing. Remember to take a donation for the library.

I believe our visit was on a Tuesday with Roberto. I remember the pickup was early morning, perhaps 8 or so? It was part of a full day of touring.
