The cathedral sits in the centre of Piazza Pio II and is the main attraction of the square. There are no restaurants or bars surrounding it to distract yourself from it. A nice to see if you are visiting Pienza but that's about it.

A must see when you are in Pienza.
The city was well planned and the Duomo adds to its charm.
The Duomo is in the main square and is the centerpiece of the city.

Don’t usually visit churches but if you are going to this one is worth it, especially the catacombs. It has a fascinating history. It’s basically sinking. They have over the years tried to stop the collapse with a maze of bricked walls.
In the church you can see what happened with the whole of back sinking. It’s impressive and amazing that over the years they tried to repair it. The church itself is also beautiful and isn’t over the top.

The Duomo of Pienza is an amazing piece of history. Visiting the main church is not enough to understand its role in the area, you have to get into the caves of the basement, where the original furniture of the Duomo is shown, together with masterpieces from the monks. The caves drilling down the earth contribute to understand the role of the duomo at that time, and how it was a reference for all inhabitants of the area.

Unfortunately this was under repair and missed the best of the place. It was really cold as the winds were unrelenting during that day. Found the best local hand made leather shop nearby.

I love old churches. Growing up in Bavaria I have been to many churches and this is one of the nicest I have been too. Loved the Frescos and the objects D'art. The building is steeped in history and Frankincense. A must see!

A beautiful little Tuscan town, I found Pienza to be very clean as well as providing a safe atmosphere. A good variety of shops catering to food, wine, fashion and souvenirs. Unfortunately for us, our visit to the Cathedral wasn't a total success due to renovations underway and we couldn't view the altar etc. An interesting little chuch can be found along the walled walk and gives examples of the work of local craftsmen from the 16th century (no Michaelangelo's, but the statues are interesting and without offence intended, highlight the difference between a genius and a tradesman).
I intend to come back and explore further.

Smaller and more intimate than many of the perched, wall villages in Tuscan (1/10 size of Montepulciano?) Easy access from large parking area north of village. Duomo was nice but not hugely impressive.

A Duomo is a cathedral, the seat of the bishop in an area diocese. Each cathedral is a church, but not all churches are cathedrals. And most cathedrals exemplify gaudy wealth. Il Duomo di Pienza portrays simplicity, and understated elegance. In front of the Duomo is the main plaza, where I enjoyed inflating balloons for children and meeting locals. This is an active house of worship, silence and appropriate attire are expected.
