When we visited the main station building was being renovated so you have to walk across the bridge to get to the Heritage centre. It has lots of information including an exhibition about David Lean, director of Brief Encounter.

We've been here many times. There's a good tearoom and plenty of railway and Brief Encounter exhibits. There's also a kids' playroom. Check out the David Lean exhibition.

Famous as the setting for the film Brief Encounter this is a great place to visit even if you have not seen the film. Convenient pay&display carpark, steam train memorabilia, children's play room, themed shop recreated as the film set, film room and an excellent cafe with a small but delicious menu choice. While the current repairs are taking place... More

Themed around the railways, the town of Carnforth and the 1946 film Brief Encounter. Appears to be run by enthusiastic volunteers and entrance is free, although on the way out you can leave a donation for the charity that runs it. Well worth a visit, with lots of memorabilia surrounding the railway, town and film. Really enjoyed the visit. At... More

We were staying in Cartmel & were recommended to visit Carnforth Station for afternoon tea! Firstly parking was very difficult as main car park was fenced off as refurbishment was underway, we were redirected and ended up hanging the car on a pavement! Station & museum were pleasant enough, run enthusiastically by what appeared to be volunteers!! Was great to... More

I had no preconception of the Heritage Centre. This was just a stop off while touring the area after a business trip. You feel as if there's a time-shift going on as you walk from the car-park, down the underpass and up onto the platform, almost as if you've stepped back about 75 years. I noticed the 'Brief Encounter' posters... More

Excellent little museum based in Carnforth railway station. This station was the setting for many scenes from the film Brief Encounter (1945). There are a number of rooms dedicated to: David Lean the film director, the film Brief Encounter (which is shown continuously in a mini cinema), Carnforth station (with lots of memorabilia, great for railway and steam buffs), Kiddies... Historically this tiny station has seen it all... Built in 1826 and tastefully resorted with a great exhibit and friendly staff. Currently it is a working railway station getting trains in and out from the surrounding areas.
