Having visited the Egmont National Park Visitor Centre on the previous day, we set out sites on the Dawson Falls Visitor Center for a different view and experience of the mountain. Like the Dawson Falls Visitor Center, the access road within the conservation area is narrow, twisty and steep, so you need to be paying careful attention. The facilties at... More

He's a very knowledgeable man who lives Mt Taranaki and has great knowledge and experience of and on the mountain, he has a lot of history and information at his fingertips and you won't be disappointed if you have a question for him, from trails and tracks to geology and vulcanology he's got it all. Basil provided us with information... More

The Dawson Falls Centre is a fantastic place. Walking and tramping tracks branch out in all directions from the Centre, offering easy access to the Dawson Falls itself, as well as to the river (really a melting glacier) running down the mountain. You'll get superb views of the mountain, and, if your feet get sore from tramping, dipping them in... More

With a breathtaking back drop of Mount Taranaki the information centre provided the background knowledge to my visit to this stunningly beautiful place. I have wanted to visit this area and see this perfectly shaped volcano for many years, yesterday I managed it. A perfectly clear day it was everything I dreamt about. To help me understand the geography there... More

We bought the $1.50 track brochure there and got very helpful advice which routes to take for our half-day hike. Centre also has lots of info and nice visuals about the area plus recent weather forecasts. Definitely visit before hiking up.

Beautiful drive up to the visitors center through bushland. Lots of parking, there is a lookout with great views. Visitors center has lots of useful info for visitors and walkers alike. Nice cafe and the Dawson Falls Lodge looks like it would be a great place to stay. Walk to the waterfalls was 5 minutes each way and well worth... More

There is no sign at the entrance to indicate that parking might be at a premium (which it was) and we had driven up for coffee and brunch, 11kms because the sign on the main road indicated that the cafe at the Mountain Lodge was open (it wasn't). Mind you, we did do this on Easter Sunday! So unless you... More

This was a great spot to look at the Dawson Falls. They are beautiful. Also a chance to experience some of the walks in the area.

The person on duty was very helpful and answered our queries about the area and old trees. 4pm closing was a surprise for January.
