When my fiance told me that we were going to Abashi I was interested but not excited. After all, how many of you have heard of the place? Then I did my reading and found out about the food, the seaside, the ice museum, the...More

This facility has explanation with English, and Chinese also Korean, I recommend for foreign guests

A well presented museum with a clear route to follow and lots of information in English. Lots of the parts of the museum were reconstructed with mannequins which really brought it to life. Well worth a couple of hours.

What was supposed to be a time filler turned into a very intersting experience in Japanese history. Highly recommendable when visiting the rather secluded area of Abashiri!

I must say this is a very interesting museum. I really enjoy the open air museum. If you are not driving, get a one-day tourist pass for the bus which will take you to this place and a few other places for 800 yen. It's...More

A few kilometers out of town and near some other museum in the area. Interesting with out being spectacular. Probably best to do all the museums in one day

The buildings are interesting and a really useful guide map takes you around the site effectively. The most interesting element for me was the story of the use of convicts to build a road across Hokkaido for military purposes with terrible hardship and loss of...More
