A beautiful spot made famous by anime & manga. It is worth a stop and a stroll, but definitely do not forget the little fried lake fish (see photo) which are a local delicacy. This volcanic lake is surrounded by lush forest-covered mountains. You can take a lift to the top of Mt. Haruna (Haruna-fuji) for a spectacular view. And... More

Perhaps summer is not the right time to go, but this place was dead. The big swan boat was nowhere to be seen and the smaller swan paddle boats were not being rented out due to heavy fog. We only saw a handful of other tourists around, one of which was on a horse ride around the lake, but mostly... More

We were there on a rainy day in autumn. Just beautiful. Enjoyed a coffee and cake at a cafe overlooking the water. So peaceful. hardly anyone there. Gorgeous drive up there

Go there using buses heading to Lake Haruna from bus stop no. 2 in Takasaki Station. Try eating the wakasagi (small fish) dishes popular in the... More

A really beautiful lake. Be sure to go during busy season when the shops are open. I did find a nice restaurant with a view out to the lake. Venture out to the middle of the lake on a duck boat. :)

A once picturesque lake sadly given the Nihon tacky treatment. If Swan paddle boats are your thing then this is the place for you. Horse rides around the car park, bright yellow multistory lake side hotel and jet boat rides also on offer, not to mention the ubiquitous tour bus clogged roads. Save yourself the drive and give it a... More
