I visited Tauranga many times and reviewed already some hotels and restaurants. But recently I visited Aviation Museum for the first time - and I really liked it! Honestly, I expected something boring with a lot of old photos and may be a number of scaled models... However they had really interesting stuff. You may even get inside and sit... More

Classic Flyers museum is something Tauranga locals should be proud of. A real credit, considering how small the population is and that they don't really have any other museums to speak of. The thing I found most stand-out about this place is that you are able to touch and sit inside some of the aircrafts. Many of the aircrafts are... More

Only had an hour or so and it coincided with an event so most of museum was closed but main hanger was open which had quite a few interesting and generally well looked after exhibits. I think it would be a real treat to see this on an activity day when they have all the secondary areas open as I... More

If you have any interest in aviation you must go here. A very well presented assortment of old and near new aircraft. See the ex RNZAF A4K Skyhawk NZ6201 and Aermacchi. Climb inside a Catalina fuselage and see what it was like for the crew. The museum is very kid friendly with child activities and they host birthday parties. Also... More

Travelling with a friend who is an aviation tragic - he went through the museum while I sat in their very comfortable couch and had an excellent coffee. We both left very happy and satisfied. I understand from the locals that the coffee shop food is excellent as well should you like lunch....

Wonderful community supported resource for kids and visitors - great for grandparents on a weekend with their grandkids. Loved the little flying planes outside for the kids - they had a great time. We visited during the Christmas season with Tauranga Multiple Birth Group. However on a visit today - and maybe the café is sublet to someone else -... More

With a couple of hours before my flight, I walked to the Aviation Museum. This museum is very convenient from the terminal and a easy walk. Good photo opportunity and a learning experience for me. It's a working center in that planes ( mostly old type) are being readied for and taking off; that added to the attraction . You... More

My husband & I went to visit this place today. The volunteer Mike was very helpful and obliging to show us around. The whole display was well set out. Will definately recommend this place. Very well worth the visit. Found it more informative with the volunteer coming around with us. Very friendly staff.

A wonderful and interesting display of planes used during the war, including the first aircraft used in NZ civil aviation (New Zealand Airways Corporation (NAC which started 1953). You can go inside the planes and have a look at the cockpit. Very informative history of the aircrafts on display. They also have a nice cafe (good food, nice service); and... More
