Olappamanna Mana was a cultural university, 65-70 years back. They were feudal lords and were patrons of Kathakali, Veda, Sanskrit and Malayalam. For that matter a lot of writers ware born in this home. The most popular form of Kathakali, born at Olappamanna School of Kathakali was transplanted to Kerala Kalamandalam by famous Malayalam poit Vallathol. Olappamanna Mana is referred in so may English books on Kathakali.

I visited Olappamanna Manna last November, and returned in February to experience a number of festivals in a nearby town. The host told me each day the best time to be at that day's festival and what to look for. He was right every time....More
