My wife and I spent a week at Safari Surf in Nosara. It exceeded our expectations in every way. The staff were knowledgeable, patient, accommodating and kind. The beach was perfect and the town has a great vibe. If you're looking for somewhere to learn or improve your surfing, look no further than Safari Surf! We hope to become regulars!

Easily one of the best trips we have ever taken. 10 days in Nosara was not nearly enough. The small town feel of the area is welcoming and the people were incredibly friendly. The surf instructors at Safari Surf are amazing and friendly, they’re patient and will help you progress as quickly or as slowly as you are comfortable with. They take the time to help you understand the waves, and build a solid foundation for progressing.
The on site manager Jeffery was fantastic and is outstandingly helpful, he was available to help with any questions or activities that we were interested in during our stay, and a great friend.
Nosara in general was incredibly welcoming and a great place to stay, the surfing was fun, and the weather was fantastic. Easily a trip you can repeat and never get bored with. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

I attended Safari Surf School for 2 weeks in late November and December 2022. My instructor Eduardo was fantastic and patient with me, and by the end of the 2 weeks I was surfing like a pro (well not quite a pro, but I could catch most waves and enjoy them). I highly recommend Safari Surf School, as the staff and instructors are down to earth, friendly, patient, and always had a smile on their faces. I stayed at the Olas Verdes Hotel (where Safari Surf's office is located) and it is highly recommended as well. It's only 200 metres from the hotel/surf school to the beach through the forest.

I really loved my experience with Safari Surf School. I was looking for a solo adventure in Costa Rica with physical activity, comfortable lodging, good food and chill vibes. Safari Surf School helped put together a package that was exactly what I was looking for.

I am a beginner surfer with no prior lessons and only a few tries previously in my life. Safari Surf School made me feel comfortable and eased me into the lessons twice a day (90 minutes each). I would recommend you go as early as possible in the morning (before 8am) as the tide/waves are better, plus there's nothing like having most of the day in front of you after 90 minutes of surfing (great way to wake up!). Seeing the sunrise from the water is not to be missed (at least once :-) ). Also, for the afternoon lessons would recommend 4:30PM, again for the best tide/waves (my experience).

I want to shout out Pio and Eduardo for the great lessons and vibes. The instructors really do make a big difference in the experience and while I didn't get to work with all the instructors, I didn't hear one complaint from any of my fellow travelers. This company you can tell really takes care of their employees and treats them like family. This makes all the difference and is reciprocated in the work.

My only "complaint" was that the first 2 days they had me use a standup paddle board since I am tall and needed a really long board. This shouldn't have happened. All I can say is do not use a standup paddle board for surfing, the grip is like sandpaper and I tore up my knees and big toes. The good news is that Jeffrey the manager quickly remedied the situation, renting a nice long board from a competitor for the remainder of my stay and even let me use the board free of charge several days after my package was up to make up for the first 2 days. He also bought waterproof band-aids and knee braces to support the remainder of the week which worked perfectly. I really appreciate the effort he made to fix a mistake; that's a sign of good management and leadership.

I stayed at Olas Verdes hotel and I highly recommend it. Quiet, peaceful, good food, right where the surf school is (office is on site), and right on the path to the beach (a few minutes jungle walk). Also, this hotel is in a refuge zone so most of the surrounding jungle is untouched and all kinds of wildlife visit the area such as rare birds, monkey's, iguanas etc. You can easily take a free bike into town (although the potholes are serious in this area, take it slow!). The hotel front desk also can help with food reservations, hiring local Tuk-Tuks to take you to town (best way to get around given said potholes) and restaurants etc. I appreciated the two nights that Safari Surf School took us out to dinner; it was a nice way to meet people and also try some of the local cuisine. For good, authentic Costa Rican food, try Celajes! Get the ceviche with an order of the fried plantain patties, you won't regret it. I also recommend getting at least 1 massage (I got 2) as part of your activities through Safari; if you are not used to surfing you body will thank you for this gift! The massage therapist comes to the hotel and works on you in the yoga chalet, so it couldn't be easier.

The Playa Guiones beach is huge and can walk long distances in either direction. The waves were great for beginners and more advanced surfers alike. The town has all the creature comforts you might need if you forgot something. The Organic market has a ton of vegan/vegetarian/gluten free items (~7 minute bike ride). I would also highly recommend going to the Lagarta lodge for hiking in their jungle paths if you are looking for a jungle hike (note: costs about $13/person if you aren't a hotel guest, however it's worth it imo as you get to go deep into the jungle, with a guide or without). Also, the lodge has a gorgeous view from the bar and with entry to the hikes you get a free drink so definitely check that view out after.

Thanks to everyone at Safari Surf for an amazing trip! The hotel, food, location and staff were first class. Inara, my instructor for the week, put together an amazing week long lesson plan based on my needs as well as dealing with a previous injury. We spent time before each lesson stretching and strengthening. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to become a better surfer.

My experience with Safari Surf School was better than I ever imagined!

Traveling alone, and speaking very little Spanish, I was slightly apprehensive, yet that feeling was fleeting, as the moment I stepped off the plane I felt welcomed and in good hands.
Having my transportation to and from the airport was so great. Not having to worry about taking a shuttle or ordering a private ride was one detail I was really happy to not have to arrange.

The hotel arrangements SSS made for me were ideal. I stayed at RideOn Hotel. Not only was it super convenient to the surf school, just steps away; it was relaxing, beautiful, and the daily breakfast which was included was healthy and delicious!
The staff at RideOn and SSS really felt like family. I already miss them 🙂

Tim Marsh was very responsive to any question or concern along the way, which gave me confidence in reaching out; I could feel he really cared about making my trip a great experience.

Jeffery, on location at the school, was incredibly kind and generous with his time. He was available for anything I might need during the week. For example, the second day of surfing my long hair was getting a sizable knot and I needed a comb to detangle it. I inquired about where I could buy one and he didn’t know but the next morning he had one for me. He had gotten one from his wife who is in the business of aesthetics. What an effort :)
His caring is 100% genuine and heartfelt.

The coaching was top notch. Milton was my surf coach for the week. As a beginner, I had no idea what to expect; I came with an open mind and excited attitude. In my mind I have been a surfer for a decade (haha) but in reality I had not actually ever surfed. As a novice with a life long athletic background I felt Milton’s style of teaching the sport was just right for me. I felt safe yet continually challenged with his guidance. He was also just a delight to be around, you can tell he really loves surfing and life in general. He made it fun and at the same time pushed my abilities. I left that week feeling satisfied and happy about what I could do in one week, and that I had scratched the surface of something really special.

I am so grateful that my first surf experience was with Safari Surf School. I am already making plans to return!

We had a fantastic time at Safari surf! Our coach was Pio and he did a wonderful job! He is very thorough in his teachings and really cares about his students. I was able to stand up on the first day because of his teachings! Everyone we interacted with were so helpful. Olas verdes is where we stayed and the staff was amazing. Highly recommend Safari surf!

These guys are the best! Wonderful teachers and the Olas Verdes Hotel is gorgeous and intimate. Playa Guiones has great waves for beginners and the place is absolutely gorgeous! I really can’t stress how much fun we had! We started out as total beginners and after a week we were riding the waves in.
