The lake is on an ancient volcano with lots of things to do. We used a hostel that had day use amenities so we were able to kayak and jet ski around this beautiful lake.

Beautiful lake surrounded by many restaurants. We took a tour boat ride around the lake and ended the day with chocobananos. Yum!

Worth it! If you go. Try to stay in one of the hotels around the lake. You will have the best view, you can perfectly swim in the lake

I went to Lago de Coatepeque with my girlfriend for an afternoon together. We drove to the lake and had lunch at a restaurant on the water. After that, we had beers at a waterfront hostel and swam in the pool. We were going to swim in the lake but we noticed a lot of seaweed in the area and we didn't want to take the risk (people have drowned before from getting stuck in the seaweed). It was a beautiful afternoon and we'll definitely visit again. Highly recommended!

This lake is absolutely beautiful. Yes, El Salvador might not have extensive infrastructure but if you do your research, there are ways to get past private properties and have an amazing weekend. 1. Airbnb: although most houses are private, loads of them are always up for rent and you can often find super good deals. 2. Hotels ex. Cardedeu: There are some really pretty hotels where you can either spend the day or the night. 3. tour companies: many tour companies will take you for the day and they will know where to take you.
