If you like walking and being present in nature - you make a good choice by doing this walk. The river corridor is in shadow much of the day so it is cooler than many areas. Path is almost entirely boardwalk.

This was a moderately challenging walk along the beautiful Paiva river. Make sure you have your logistics worked out so that you are not at the mercy of the local cabs at the end of your journey. Consider using one of the local tour companies...More

A great walk in the middle of a beautifull landscape, where you can actually feel the fresh air, the sounds and the smell of Nature We were just going to do the normal walk of 8km from point A to B, but it was feeling...More

The passage way following the river bends is astonishing as are the views. It's a 8 km walk along the river, (double, if you walk back) but it doesn't realy require an amazing physical shape. At midway you'l find a nice beach (ice cold water)...More

Beautiful walkways! Make sure you buy tickets before going they do not sell them there. Unfortunately it was raining and cold while we were there but it is a beautiful sight.

A relatively easy trail, mostly on a wooden path along the Paiva river. Need to climb about 500 stairs at the beginning along a beautiful gorge. From the top it is mostly downhill. The start is at Areinho river beach. You need to purchase tickets...More

We travelled with 3 kids (17, 18, and 25) - they loved the trip. We started on the Areinho side - which is a TAD exausting - climb of 310 stairs. JUST TO GET TO THE TICKED BOOTH. NOTE - you need to pre-purchase tickets...More

We did this trail over the summer. We bought our tickets long before our vacation and received an email (in portugese only!) a few days before planning the hike to indicate that the south entrance would be closed for maintenance. We appreciated the heads up...More

We started from Espiunca which is in fact the best to do, since the last mile is quite exposed with many stairs. I would not recommend to bring small children below the age of 8, but above this is OK. Very nice countryside, and very...More

Beautiful scenery, very relaxing and well maintained area - infrastructures in excellent condition. Would definitely recommend. Visitors should be warned that a portion of the stairs from the usual starting point (Areinho) is closed, due to the planned construction of the longest suspended bridge in...More

Ola We had our own car with us, so really didn't look into trying to get there by public transport. We did see plenty of taxis ferrying walkers from one end to the other, but didn't notice any public transport.
