Going inside isn't much different from looking at it outside. It's just a ruin with not much to see. If you've got a membership definitely stop in but if you have a pay an entry fee you may feel a bit disappointed.

I was born in Tynemouth and looking back over the years the Priory has hardly changed except for a coast guard station being built several years ago. It is surrounded by beautiful beaches the Haven to the south and King Edwards bay to the north....More

The mouth of the Tyne is overlooked by this sturdy castle and priory - the entrance is still a bit forbidding and the views, from inside the walls, of the coast and the North Sea let you know why it was built in the first...More

Do I understand from one of the Tripadvisor comments that if you stay outside the Tynemouth Priory and Castle buildings you can be on the grounds without charge? We just want to take some scenic photos. 4 hours ago

You could walk right up to the gates and take photos and also walk part of the perimeter. There is no accommodation within the Castle or Priory grounds.
