Going inside isn't much different from looking at it outside. It's just a ruin with not much to see. If you've got a membership definitely stop in but if you have a pay an entry fee you may feel a bit disappointed.

We visited the Priory on a very overcast, very windy day, which I think contributed to the beauty of the location. It's self-guided, but we enjoyed a couple of hours wandering the castle and priory ruins. There's also a preserved bunker, but that wasn't as...More

The mouth of the Tyne is overlooked by this sturdy castle and priory - the entrance is still a bit forbidding and the views, from inside the walls, of the coast and the North Sea let you know why it was built in the first...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Do I understand from one of the Tripadvisor comments that if you stay outside the Tynemouth Priory and Castle buildings you can be on the grounds without charge? We just want to take some scenic photos. 4 hours ago

You could walk right up to the gates and take photos and also walk part of the perimeter. There is no accommodation within the Castle or Priory grounds.
Are there any hotels nearby? X
